Its great how I am discovering more and more of these licks in the David Gilmour solos I have memorised note for note. I know I shouldn't be surprised but I am.
i am having trouble only sounding one string when trying to do bends. any suggestions. wait i mean on the release is when the other strings sound like a flick off. thanks for all the help.
@CKS5000 that happened to me too, but I think you should think of when you have bent the note you should mute the strings with the right hand before/during the release of the bend
how come the first note of every demonstration sounded so poppy? I am very amateur in recording, and just curious. Or is it that the bridge is a bit too low on your first 2 strings? See ya!
Alternative (i.e. down, up, down up...) picking is quite important. As commented below, it does allow the freedom to play faster with less tension and strain on your picking hand.
well down picking can get tiring. i should probably try it. but i'm afraid i'd be doing something wrong. theres always some technique to things like rollingg and bendingg
Yeah that'll work to start. You can ten try two then four per beat to work on your timing. Eventually you can do triplets and then dotted eightnotes followed by a 16th note for swing style rythem.
Im not justin, but i do have an opinion =). Spider lll amps are really good and versatile amps, but i'd recommend them just for practice. If your playing live, a good tube amp would be best.
Bravo!

A VERY nice little exercise for playing licks. Learn a simple lick, then try and play it backwards. I found it pretty challenging but a lot of fun.

@MedicoreProductions You just do a "curl" on the C note. Its like a 1/4 step bend. Definitely a blues staple. Keep your ears open and youll hear it.

Lutherro 1 year ago
@Lutherro it is, more or less. It is also similiar to the Dani California solo (which is pretty much Purple Haze^^) ;D

no difference. just a different name. same as saying semi-tone instead of half-step.

very useful... I need to change my strings down a gauge... I think I have .13's...
abean16 2 years ago
you've probably got 12s, maybe 11s (acoustic im talkin bout)
RespIendency 2 years ago
probably... I found the problem though... I'm still strengthening my fingers to bending on my acoustic medium-gauge strings.

hey at 2:46-2:50 didn't that sound like the little legato lick in the "Walk" solo by pantera.

how important is alternate picking overall?
lXJoseOleXl 3 years ago
pretty important if you want to learn to play fast. If you can play just as quickly with all downs then all power to you.

well down picking can get tiring. i should probably try it. but i'm afraid i'd be doing something wrong. theres always some technique to things like rollingg and bendingg
lXJoseOleXl 3 years ago
Just start slow and make sure you do everything to a metronome and you'll be fine.
yearg11 3 years ago 2
so like down pick one click and then up pick every other one?

Yeah that'll work to start. You can ten try two then four per beat to work on your timing. Eventually you can do triplets and then dotted eightnotes followed by a 16th note for swing style rythem.
