I think they are just joking. I have that stove. If you have a stove like that, it is not your first camping trip where you don't bring a spoon, bowl, plate, etc. When he had the pan handle as an eating utensil, I knew it was just parody. But great, you had me going for a while. My first camping trip was like this. I said we would just cook over a fire. lmao, yeah right, it poured, and we couldn't build a fire in the tent.
