This is the very first discourse that Lord Buddha gave to the 1st 5 disciples. The name of the sutta means " Setting the wheel of dhamma in motion". It's the blue print of His teaching for the next 45 years of His ministry.

@Kunzang99 The Buddha spoke a number of languages, one of them was Magadhi. When his teaching spread to Sri Lanka, and was recorded on palm leaves for the very first time, the Sri Lankans started to call this language "Pali", which means 'Language of the Texts'.

reggaemn, Pali was not the original language of the Buddha. He most likely spoke Magadhi.
