  • what tenor today can touch this voice? NONE! they all SUCK! the warmth, the timbre, the tone, the diction are all impeccable.. just incredible

  • I found Richard Tauber's grave in Brompton Cemetary London a few years ago with my daughter who was 12 and tried to explain to her who he was. My father introduced me to this music when i was a child 50 years ago. I thank him for this and for Bjorling and Gigli. It is so beautiful.

  • When I sing this glorious song, I will direct it to my true love, for now and all eternity, the one who created me and called me to himself and will transform me to be one with the Father. This is the love that beautiful earthly love foreshadows. How much more worthy to be adored is he who loved me when I was yet in sin and darkness. This is not just a lovely story of man's devising. This is the essence of all our existence. Listen again in that context.

  • @45oldbear nicely said.

Too bad its just a fairy tale.

Time to put away childish things, though you can still admire Tauber.

you write well- why not raise your sights and write something other than superstition and fantasy?

  • what a blast from the past hearing this wonderful voice again after so many years. My parents knew him in pre war Germany and always talked about him. I hadn't heard his voice in years. The wonder of you tube!

  • Incluso en inglés es una delicia . He's our heart's delight.

  • What a musician. This man knew how to sing a song, not the greatest instrument ever, but among the greatest singers.

  • how beautiful .

  • Outstanding voice.

  • Bring back memories. My German born father would often mention Richard Tauber. Sadly, there is no more romance in our world.

  • Truly wonderful, would loved to have seen him performing live, eat your heart out Robbie Williams and the rest, NO comparison.

  • to mrright 911 sending this song to someone you love is a marvellous idea...I think I,ll do just that...

  • What a wonderful piece of music to send to someone that you are in love with.

  • Very well sung as always by him

  • Thank you GOS for sending me the lovely rendition by Tauber who sings with so much emotion and thanks to the other commentators for their interesting history of a favorite song.

  • Correction: Original issue was RO 20284!

  • These English words were written by Harry Graham for the first English production of the Land of Smiles in 1931. The American translation was used when Tauber sang a version of the show on Broadway in 1946.

The original 1935 Parlophone coupling of this song was 'When Moonbeams softly fall' [RO 20204]. In 1939 it was re-issued coupled with Vienna, City of my Dreams [RO 20467], and in 1941 with Patiently Smiling [RO 20500].

  • I have this on an original Parlophone 78. The flip side is a great version of "La Paloma" also in English. I prefer the lyrics to "Yours is My Heart Alone," or am maybe just more used to them.

  • And you're a fortunate one,Mr...or Mrs...or miss vinyltovideo...I had it..and I have lost the disc.(it was broken years ago)

What an exquisite flavour for this sunny..and very cold(it's winter in my country now) sunday!

    Thanks again,GErmanOperaFan(Herr,FRau oder Fräulein)
