when i was about 12, my dad had to wire some money to a jobsite, and back in 1983 you had to go downtown to do it. we piled in the car on friday evening, and drove to ashley st where the old jail was. my mom, and us kids waited in the car. he took care of business and we went to drive back to the southside. all the pimps and hos were out for the evening.  we ended up going down church st, by the bus station.

@tranurse cont, as we sat at the light, some woman taps at the window and offers my dad entertainment for the grand total of 20 dollars. he looked at her, shocked as hell and reminded her that his wife and kids was in the car. she smiled at him and said, 'i don't mind.' my dad just looked at her stunned and said, 'no thanks, but you have a merry x-mas.' the light turned green and he floored it. i love jax.

The only problem with Jacksonville, besides the humidity, are the roads. It's pretty much the same throughout Florida, where we're always under construction and it takes 6 months too long to repave a simple road. And the roads that drastically need to be redone are ignored.

ahh, school 4 is amazing and no, its not haunted. been in there many times, around 2am or so. took lots of photos but the most that came out was orbs. and the rumors about ppl dying there are false. no reported deaths there, and only two reports of rape, which were between bums. i get no sense of spirits when i go in there. i went in every room, up and down, and the basement, even the roof. There was a fire in 1995 and the auditorium has caved in. When it was made of wood. (later brick and concrete) The buidling was designed by architect Rutledge Holmes and was almost industructable (at the time).

Theres been a battle of to demolish it and make condo's (etc, etc) or to preserve it for a landmark or even turn it to a home for senior citizens for over 50 years now.

I lived in Jacksonville for 10 years and yes they do drive really bad. I lived in Washington DC for a few years and its worse but only because there are too many cars (many more people than in Jax). I now live in Moscow, Russia ans this place makes Jax look like a deserted country road. The roads are lawless. As much as I hated Hicksonville I would much rather drive there than here.

They finally redid the grates on the Matthews this summer, was a "cluster" but is less of a death trap now. They actually closed the bridge down for a week or so, people had to go all the way around and use the Dames Pointe. Which, ironically, they closed lanes of to paint it. Which, of course, caused all kinds of hate and discontent with the locals who had to now drive 50 miles to work instead of 4! lol
