That game is not UO... UO died in 2000 when UO:R was released. Thankfully I found uosecondage(dot)com that lets me relive UO how it was meant to be (and its free to play).

meh... i played for a few years up to LBR and i quit... i don't expect anything anymore for UO. trammel was actually ok... but felluca was better. trammel just made it easy 4 ppl 2 actually farm up n stuff. i loved the PvP, but i know i wont ever see anything like it again. stygian abyss can go to hell for all i care. Greatest game ever created... torn to pieces by it's creators and the noobs... I guess that's how a game's life is expected to go...
being a long time Ultima fan (the dos games also), SA is pretty fun. Its nice to see alot of old stuff like the slasher of veils show up again. I didn't know he was in the expansion until I ran by him and was like "Oh fuck no....!>!.1.kjefkajf" and continued to run and scream.
The game is way more gear/item driven which sucks, but its still fun!
and hell, with the new client, Felucca has leaves on the trees again! WOOO
I still play pen/paper RPGs. Im surprised someone whos played them cant see the possibility of RPing with UO. There are plenty of players who have been experiencing the world of Ultima since BEFORE UO.
The story, characters and lands are all old news to us.
So, its perfectly normal to RP in Sosaria all over again.

that aside, When Richard Garriot designed the beginnings of UO, he wanted to create a virtual world similar to the design of Ultima VII.
When he would be on the game and witness people RPing in the manner that you deem "mental", he was thrilled. They were doing precisely what he envisioned.
True... this game sucks now. 9-12 years ago, this was the best game ever created. If they kept it that way, it would still be the best game ever created. Of course, every UO player knows the term "Patches Kill" ... They have seen first hand what patches do.
personnaly i have never liker uo 2d. And uo Kr was better than SA.
Now we have an old uo totaly useless and don't attrack news players and this shit of uo SA.
UOKR was absolutly fantastic. he look like at uo 8 in high resolution.
UO2d is ugly and unplayble, and the engine of uosa is really interessing with powerfull macro. Don't to install an extern software for make macro.
The system of targeting is powerfull but lack of option.

Patch killed it 2000-2001 with shity Trammel.
It would still be the best game, if it would stay vanilla and all players would came back.
But it will never be the same - this game was "life"...
