Well, I don't know guys. I checked the real Julia Child here on Youtube and have to say that Streep did a perfect job. Check out the 'Julia Child making omelette' video for example...

I cannot fathom why Steep got any praise at all for her portrayal of Child. It was so truly awful, over the top and excruciating to watch. I know she is attempting to play a big slightly eccentric character but when you see the real Julia she makes sense, the actress who plays her sister in the movie makes sense but Streep makes no sense at all. The character just shimmers with over acting and misplaced eccentricities. I managed to get halfway through the movie and just had to give up.

ive read both julie and julia and julia child's "my life in france", and i can assure you that the movie is a poor caricature of both women, but mainly of the lovely julia child, mareyl streep's performance is a patronizing insult to julia's memory, and her proud admission that she mainly studied dan akroyd's imitations of julia rather then the actual julia shows the lack of regard she had for julia and for the audience. how she won any award for it is BEYOND COMPREHENSION to me!

imo, the most overrated moviie of the year! Sure it's watchable, but I do think that Streep should have recieved her Globe for It's complicated! I'm not ffro m th US, and this is the first time of heard of Julia Child... in my opinion that is one of the most irratating characters of movie history for which one has recieved a golden globe!

I know that Julia Child has actually lived! I can't judge what kind of a person she has been, because I have never heard of her before this movie came out! However, I can judge the character of Julia Child that is portrayed by Meryl Streep. Because surely you can agree with me that Julia Child that was impersonated by Streep is just her own interpretation of Julia Child. Therefore, I can say, that in my opinion JUlia Child that is played by Meryl Streep is an EXTREMELY irritating character.
