@cyberpredator123 were you dropped on yr head as a child?....i was...but i still have an IQ of about 132 andI know damn good films when i see em! This is a classic ! .....it is a motherfucking classic!!!! har har har
This is the Navy I joined at the time. It was the West Coast but still the same. I served 30 years. One thing I remember from that time... We all stuck together.. shore leave, liberty, or shitty watch and Shore Patrol. When I retired the sailors really didn't seem to care that much about that...or each other... sigh.
@son8of8vazkor Thanks for the response son8. Actually, your description of the actual ending taken from the book has more appeal to me as I know better exactly how Mule and Buckowski feel about things and the action they take. The ending of the movie is left open but doesn't leave a strong enough impression (at least on me). But thanks anyway.
This is an excellent scene from the movie. But I must say, after recently watching it, I was very disappointed with the ending of this film. It just didn't make the connection between the young kid going to jail and Jack and Mule stuck in their "navy jail." Anyone else care to chime in? I'd like to see someone post the last 10 minutes of this film where they get reamed from the CO.
They get reamed by some chickenshit duty officer, not the CO. Mulhall demands to see the XO or thay ain't sayin' nothing else. Buddusky backs him up - let's see the XO. The duty officer backs down. The duty officer's a second looie, what the hell would he be doing as CO of Portsmouth Naval Prison? Otherwise, point well taken.
One second Nicholson's head is absolutely still ("I happened to be in here the night a certain sailer ...") and a few seconds later, BAM! "I am the fucking shore patrol ... you're gonna have a fucking beer!!"
@southdakotaslim I love films from the 1970's. Before all this bullshit big budget special effects nonsense took over. I love these films that were pure character studies.
thumbs up if want a beer *pops a top*

"Whoa there sunshine..." lmao. This is such a great film and has one of the most realistic drunk scenes in the history of film. Just brilliant.

i don't care what anyone says, this is Jack's greatest performance. Cuckoo's nest was sort of a little brother to this performance.
