Whats crazy is that he is not hitting a wrong button. I have a drum machine too and I am always tapping a wrong button by accident. It sounds too clean unless he has several buttons programmed with the same sound so if he does hit a wrong button it won't sound like he messed up...I dunno...
@r0b0tj0n3s he probably can. This is just the way a lot of jazz and fusion drummers play. The impressive thing is that can actually replicate it on a midi instrument with just his hands. It's just an amazing accomplishment from a drummer and producer's point of view.

Puts one stick down, and starts soloing on the drum machine with one hand, while the other hand is playing fills on the kit. This guy is gifted!

Pretty incredible playing - the drum machine lacks the dynamic and timbral nuances of real drums though, so it would be pretty hard to play expressively.
with the advances in touch sensitivity and the abilty to change dynamics and timbre in post production you can approximate the nuances of a "real" kit....but alot of expression of drums comes from the human timing and 'swing' in the playing...so david gets more feeling out of a drum machine than anyone else because he is 'playing' pads not just setting up programs.....so he pulls off nuances and expression other people with the same equipment cant fathom...

That one is an Alesis HR 16, but he is VERY skilled. He could make practically any drum machine sound good, and there are many drum machines from different brands that are out there...

Nice groove, great fills, great high-hat sound. A blind listen would have most thinking your are playing a kit. At one point it sounds like a kit and a percussionist on the side.
oh and David, since this is your own video? I wanna say everything sounds great except that snare crescendo at the end that was so uneven but I guess it's very difficult
if you say "all he does is press buttons" isnt that the same for instruments like guiatrs .... you just press a string down on a fret and for brass and wood instruments say a trumpet you just press down the buttons....
I think this falls along the lines of a piano, or more accurately a keyboard in terms of technique. It clearly can't be compared to guitar, wind instruments or drumset.
I give him respect. He has a great ear, and nice timeing It's also good to know that he can play a conventional kit as well as the drum machine. You don't see many people that use drum machines try to master a kit.

TO ALL THOSE WHO SAY ITS EASY, AND ITS NOT DRUMMING....Where are your video replies to this. You must know someone who has a drum machine, lets see you do it better.
WOW, that was very impressive, but for anyone to say that it's more difficult to play a drum machine than a conventional kit then they don't drum. Anyone playing on a drum machine outnumbers a drummers limbs 10 to 4. He has 10 fingers which can be used on ALL keys, drummers however can't use our legs to play our toms, nor our arms to play our bass (not in the conventional sense anyway). It requires much greater co-ordination, rhythm and stamina to play that (or any groove) on an acoustic kit.
In case you can't tell, he has different areas and buttons to press for different notes. He must vary his patterns on the various buttons (while never even barely missing) in order to make a realistic sound. He doesn't have the option to just hit the same drum in different ways. Additionally, there are no sticks, which can lead to very different notes with minimal technique change. There are no rimshots, no bounces, and no placement in general. . . .
. . . You're right, for this music there is enough inter-drum playing that it would be harder to completely move your arms around than using your fingers. Still, it is very conceivable that a drum machine could be much harder to play in many situations.

Nice groove, great fills, great high-hat sound. A blind listen would have most thinking your are playing a kit. At one point it sounds like a kit and a percussionist on the side.

if you say "all he does is press buttons" isnt that the same for instruments like guiatrs .... you just press a string down on a fret and for brass and wood instruments say a trumpet you just press down the buttons....

I think this falls along the lines of a piano, or more accurately a keyboard in terms of technique. It clearly can't be compared to guitar, wind instruments or drumset.

I give him respect. He has a great ear, and nice timeing It's also good to know that he can play a conventional kit as well as the drum machine. You don't see many people that use drum machines try to master a kit.

WOW, that was very impressive, but for anyone to say that it's more difficult to play a drum machine than a conventional kit then they don't drum. Anyone playing on a drum machine outnumbers a drummers limbs 10 to 4. He has 10 fingers which can be used on ALL keys, drummers however can't use our legs to play our toms, nor our arms to play our bass (not in the conventional sense anyway). It requires much greater co-ordination, rhythm and stamina to play that (or any groove) on an acoustic kit.

In case you can't tell, he has different areas and buttons to press for different notes. He must vary his patterns on the various buttons (while never even barely missing) in order to make a realistic sound. He doesn't have the option to just hit the same drum in different ways. Additionally, there are no sticks, which can lead to very different notes with minimal technique change. There are no rimshots, no bounces, and no placement in general. . . .

. . . You're right, for this music there is enough inter-drum playing that it would be harder to completely move your arms around than using your fingers. Still, it is very conceivable that a drum machine could be much harder to play in many situations.

Amokian... i can garentee this guy has more rythem and skill than every hater out there. this is alot harder than a real kit in my opinion. it seems to be a bit easy to hit the rong black button than it does to hit the rong tom. duno if thats just me? anyways gr8 and sick drumming. well done
