@toby099 The funny thing was that Don didn't fire Sal because he was gay -- Don already knew he was gay from the time he caught him in the hotel with the bellhop. Don fired him because he expected Sal to take one for the team and have sex with Lee, since he's such an important client, just like he'd expect any woman in the office to do.

@darlinkula1 its meant to be realistic, at that time blacks didn't even have civil rights. The chances of a black guy getting into an executive position like most of the characters was extremely unlikely.
It was NOT one of Don Draper's finest moments firing Sal. They definitely need to return to that storyline. I figure Sal has started his own company and I hope Don has to come crawling back to Sal and ask him for forgiveness. "You people" indeed.
@TheNomadicview Why should Don be crawling back to Sal? Do you not realize how much money Lucky Strikes was worth? If they had kept Sal they would have gone under and lost a tone of money. This is a business, you have to do what is right for the company. Besides, Don would have believed him if Sal hadn't cheated on his wife with that bellboy.
@hotsizzleakadafizz So if Lucky Strikes had demanded to sleep with somebody's wife, because it is business then Don should have said,"Ok." In the end, we learned it WAS the wrong decision because they lost Lucky Strikes And they lost a Sal. As far as your last comment, seriously? Don is the last one to make moral judgments on anybody extra-marital affairs.
@TheNomadicview I don't think you understood what I meant. Don wasn't judging Sal's morals, he knew that Sal was gay...that is the game breaker. Had he not known Sal was gay then Don could have tried to figure something out. He saw Sal fool around with a bell boy, so he wasn't sure if he could believe Sal about not having done anything with Lee Garner Jr. Sal messed up, Lee Garner Jr. messed up, and Don messed up too. But I certainly don't think Don should be "crawling" back to Sal.
You forgot to add the most important scene, when that hotel bellboy comes on to Sal and Don sees it from the fire escape... that's how Don find out about Sal's sexuality to begin with, which is why he says "you people" later on when he's letting Sal go.
-"I´m married".
-"So am I".
LOL LOL LOL.

How cool of the show to address homosexuality I'm just tired of seeing Blacks get roles on Mad Men as elevator operators and janitors.

They'd lynch him back then, and no one would say a word about it; amazing how far we've come in just half a century.

anyone else find it ironic that Sal is the only slightly decent guy to his wife,....and he's gay?
amenatsuhasujinseii 1 month ago 9
@amenatsuhasujinseii because he's not attracted to women and he couldn't really act on his homosexualism, until that scene anyways.
