Just wanted to say thanks for posting, I teach songs on here, but I never learned scales or lead parts. Just a rhythm guy, I guess. I am learning now and have already studied a few of your videos, very helpful!
Not this riff. 'Guitar Workout' has bits and pieces of many styles to help you understand what goes in to professional modern technique. Writing a blues book is now underway but it won't have this exact thing as part of it. Sorry.
Sounds like a serious question? If you want to improve go in the direction of the masters you enjoy. Pick out some players and study their style. Learn their tunes. Read articles about the way they got to where they're at.
Don't be blind and expect to arrive at the goal. Open up the picture. See how they did it then you try and practice like hell. No shortcuts.
Glad you like it. It's basic but a good study of blues rhythm chords with a little melody added. Any chord you play can have things added to it to get it more character. Try to reverse the line and or change the order. Do it till it sounds good or the way you'd like it to sound. Thanks a million!
Listen to the masters and learn the riffs and the scales the riffs come from. Find a good teacher and go watch live music. How good do you want to be?
Hey John. Terrific, as always. You mentioned a book with a focus on embellishments, fill-ins, etc. (at least that was my understanding). Does your Guitar Workout book cover all this? Thanks
I wouldn't say it pinpoints that area. It's more of a development study that designed to improve your picking technique and teach you basic and advanced theories. I try to parallel the piano in understanding music and most guitarists lack that. I'm not one to normally generalize but I teach a lot of students and very rarely do they come in with much harmony under their belt. Thanks for your interest....John
A lot of people judge this as a performance but it's nothing of the kind. It's purpose is to help people understand how to put blues chords together in a song or structure. Thanks for the comment.
i second that... on the other hand if he'd have played in a band with some bass and percussion this might be the right tone to stick out for soloing... but i think this is a little bit too bright...
Nice axe, bro. I looked at em... loved it in every way, except it sucked to stand and play so I bought the 137, instead cuz it's thinner. Nice post for the beginners.
Another great lesson. I'm very greatful for your videos. I don't know if you remember me. I was looking for a guitar. Finally I bought a Parker P-44. It sounds great. But I would really appreciate your comments or advice. Thanking you as allways, Ricardo, Buenos Aires, Argentine.
Oh yeah I remember....You play whatever guitar that makes you happy....Not happy shop around.....Try them out first before buying.....Don't buy online unless you can return it..... Ricardo!! ?Como esta?
Thanks for your reply. I bought a Parker P-44. Not online. I tested before. It sounds great. I would preferred a Gibson but it is too expensive for me. I appreciate your lessons. Thanks again.
It's a little melody or phrase at the end of a blues or any tune that's usually played the same way to let everyone know you're on your way back to the top or begining again. JH
