This show demands playing to the audience. Look for the video posted by someone who recorded this number live. A great performance (I saw it live, myself, and I can attest to it.). Not here. You can hear Elaine Paige toning down the performance. She pulls back the word "blues" so as not to pop into the mic, for example. Should not have been close-miked as well. This should have been recorded on a stage or soundstage rather than a studio so the performers could let it out.

I'm glad I've heard this, but it's far from the best version of the song. She's probably now at the right age to sing it, but she seems to put the emphasis on the singing rather than the feeling that comes with the song. If you want to see what it should sound like, listen to Elaine Stritch doing it. She's probably got a decade or more on Paige, but you can feel the emotion. To me there's no emotion in this version; she sings it well, but it's just a song, whereas it should be an experience.
