Poor hippo, though they can also be merciless killers, if a lion fucks up the initial attack its dead. Those two lions, especially the one on top looked like fine specimens. A tad on the thin side but muscular and strong nontheless.

The Lion was biting the hippo's spine, doing this helps immobilise the hippo and stops the hippo from fighting back. Also Hippos get exhausted quickly on land.

Obviously the hippo would fight back if it could however Lions are intelligent enough to know the best way to kill a hippo is to avoid its massive jaws and attack its spine.

@inoout Odd but not uncommon if food is scarce. I saw lionesses take down a grown elephant during a night hunt on PBS. These two male lions dont have a pride to hunt for them so its just the two of them trying to kill what they can.

The Hippo would obviously fight back if it could. Im guessing at the start of the fight the Hippo was fighting hard.

The Hippo would get exhausted very fast fighting Lions. Hippo's are not the best on land so fighting on land would be hard for a Hippo.

The Lion is also directly attacking the Hippo's spine which helps immobalise it.

The Lions are intellegent enough to know the best way to kill a Hippo.
