Hey Drum Dept..the licks you post are very cool. I know it could be a bit of a pain to transcribe each one for those guys who read, but what would be really helpful is to illustrate where the downbeat is in relation to the lick / fill.
Some of your fills start just before, just after or somewhere in the middle of a measure - and sometimes it's a bit tricky to try and properly place these licks / fills without reference to where beat '1' is.
this dude does not know how to teach. No offense to anyone, but he looks like he doesn't wanna be there teaching. Im back off to the MIKE JOHNSTON Website to learn some more drums lol
I'm a big fan of Mike Johnston, but I'm really appreciative to this channel too. I think it's nice for intermediate/advanced drummers who don't need a 5 minute breakdown, but can see and mimic what he's playing. This channel has plenty of great licks, and they videos are short and sweet to save time. A bigger breakdown would also be nice though xDD

Thank yall for writing this out...I watch this video like 5 times trying to get each hit and I could get it but since yall did the hard part I should able to pick this up. Thank yall again and God Bless fellow drummer...
u guys just dont get it....it is not about learning every particular lick or fill, it is about making such things flow out of ur pocket without thinking, just feeling
@crack87 yea ofcourse thats the never ending ultimate result, yet these licks help you when u dont no what the fuck to play...lol....impres some girls at guitar center...
yeah u are right...i just was a bit pissed because this was number 10000 of videos i found called : cool lick, great fill, linear lick.....blabla, so i hope u dont get me wrong cuz of course this is a good introduction if u want to make this things flow out of the pocket

@MikeRob30 actually in order 2 get speed and 2 understand placement u have to be fully comfortable around the kit. once you're used to playing the rudiments that correspond to this fill u should be able to learn it pretty quickly.
really this guy can play but the explaination is quite lacking. i think you should always show the sticking and accents on the snare or hi hat 1st and then show the rest on the whole kit but whatever hes real good

The enclosed "[R]" for right hand is hit at the same time as the 2nd kick that comes before it. and from there you continue the cycle for that ""sweep"" feeling!
awesome fill, he has great control over his sticking where to place his single and double kicks so it always finishes nice and has a nice twist to it.
You guys are awesome but you haven't posted anything in a long time

Very nice fill....the accents are very well placed. Very effective. The sticking as I can see is as so: (Bars are split with -)
RLLF - FLRL - LFFL - RLLF - FLRL - RLFF - LFRL - RLFR - F (Sticking)
1e+a - 2e+a - 3e+a - 4e+a - 1e+a - 2e+a - 3e+a - 4e+a - 1 (Counting 16ths)

for people that need the stickin and cant read sheet music, here u go:
img25 . imageshack . us / img25 / 8411 / thesweepfill.jpg
Remove the spaces after copy/pasting (youtube spam filters dont let me post links :( )
Thats a link to the a screenshot of the stickin since i couldn't post it here cuz youtube screws up the formatting.
Its 32notes long so obviously u can use it as a 32nd note fill (like drew is) or use it as a 16th note fill, so it ll cover 2bars.
