I think most cars now are fitted with fins on the rear difuser to disturb the air to stop this very thing.

This was caused by the huge amount of downforce on the rear spoiler of the Porsche GT1 where the resistance just pushes so hard on the back that the front lifts causing this spectacular crash.

Actually the rear wing is not a major cause of this accident. The fact he is following another car so closely over the crest is a big cause. The aerodynamics of this situation are a lot different to what is expected.

Also closed top cars in LeMans are much more likely to flip over than open tops due to their shape.

Well, the engine seemed to make fire, unless that was sparks, and the rear wheel was at an angle so the suspension was probably buggered, plus all the bodywork including vital aerodynamics would've had to be replaced, so it seems unlikely.
