I have more computing power in my phone than was used to send men to the moon and build the atom bomb. The thing that modern computing lacks is a better programming paradigm. Why are we still editing text files?!
@websuspect at 12:58 is one panel with giant tubes. i was asking what were those tubes used for, as transmission diodes ? as gasotrons? as spark gaps? i don t know
@websuspect and look at the beggining when master eckert is talking from 7:19 to 8:28 he explains to u what was that circuit used for. so that circuit there described was used for holding a line of 9 numbers, then, the other circuit. i doubt that one big electron tube was used to hold a number...
Zuse is presented in part one.Great dokumentary, but the narrater is such a nuckle head:),this guy is like a small child trying to read the text .I bet he doesnt understand a word of what hes saying:).
Now I'm less terrified by the exams at computer science, to fully understand what you're studying you have to picture the last 70 years of computing, advanced mathematics, engineering and physics. So no hurry on me. heh
von neumann and other german engineers have built eniac. when the americans stole it, it took 10 years to put it back and make the machine functional.
The Zuse Z3 is recognized as the first functional program-controlled Turing-complere computer. Konrad Zuse's work is presented in Part 1 of this two part video: Computer Pioneers - Pioneer Computers.
The 1973 decision of the patent suit Honeywell v. Sperry Rand named John Atanasoff the inventor of the first automatic electronic digital computer. His special-purpose machine has come to be called the Atanasoff–Berry Computer.

Hard to believe that what we have today came from such humble beginnings, and not that long ago.

After watching this documentary I reconsidered assembly language as being a high level programming language

Amazing, computers used to work for reals back then, seems like they didn't freeze.

"Heeeres JOHNNIAC!"
I might be imagining things...
Great documentary btw. Makes me want to make a calculation engine out of ICs.

@herbertsa You didn't see part 1, did you? It covered Zuse extensively, including a live lecture by Zuse himself.
