I'd seen Laura and Almanzo in their big two story house and I'd seen them in the small house in the last season, but I always wondered what happened to their house. I hadn't seen this particular epi that explains it.

This was one of my favorite episodes, very dramatic, wow that tornado came up fast, it was all sunny and by the time she walked to the kitchen the tornado was roaring across the prairie.. of course I thought it in poor taste that she ran back for the cat, and the cat ran away anyway. I was sad to see their cute house destroyed by the Tornado. I also think that Almanzo needs a swift kick in the rear, He treated Laura too poorly , overall great show though

Poor Melissa, having to work with animals AND children in one scene! I had to giggle at the cat digging its claws into the bedsheets at 5:33, that's exactly what my kitty would do in that situation, just to be difficult!

And Eliza Jane is just an old dried up spinster who wants Almanzo all to herself. Isn't that like that old prune to interfere like that. I can see everyone's point. I am a huge animal lover and I would've wanted to save the cat, but I don't think I would've left the shelter. I would've opened the door and called for the cat, but if he didn't come I would just close the door and keep my daughter safe. The cat would take care of itself and find somewhere to go.

Actually I just remembered that Mary and Adam left their baby in the crib to go get out the blind children...when there were others that were taking care of the blind kids.....instead of making sure their baby got out. Because of their poor judgement the baby ended up dying in the fire along with Mrs. Garvey who went back in to get it.....

Yes, and dont get me wrong...I have a puppy and I love him to death BUT humans should come first and only if it is safe for you to go back in and save your pet should you go....

I actually have a dog...thank you very much...and I LOVE HIM more than I can say.....but when you have a family (humans) they should come first otherwise don't have kids and just keep your pets as your kids. I did not say that I would not save my pet....BUT.....my child would come first before ANYONE or ANYTHING!!!

I know it's just sad that anyone can have such a selfish attitude toward animals and try to make excuses to justify their selfishness. To me, leaving a beloved pet behind is just as heartbreaking as leaving a human child behind. But if I were in a stormy situation like this, I would make sure my baby is safe first before I go back in for my two dogs. In this second part episode, I sometimes feel like slapping Almanzo for acting like a child instead of trying like he should be.

You misunderstand-I have the greatest compassion for animals, I just think she shouldn't have endangered her own life to rescue the cat- I mean, imagine Rose being motherless because of a cat? It just doesn't add up. Many animals know how to take care of themselves during storms, more so than some humans...

I agree with you 100%.. its so dumb, and people who believe that a stupid cat is worth more than your own life, is foolish... I would never have gone back... Any logical person who look at the situation and see its to dangerous to go back, not just for yourself, but for your daughter. She left her baby by herself, to go rescue some cat? to be honest with you, I'd never let that nasty cat around my baby to begin with!

That isn't unusual. There does not need to be a visible storm before a tornado. I saw four tornadoes when I lived in the midwestern U.S. Two of them were on bright sunny days and the other two happened during storms.

I don't like Almonzo's attitude in these two epis, but I'm glad that he finally stood up to Eliza Jane. He should've been strong like that all along.

Also, I don't think it's really in Laura's character to leave her baby in the storm cellar by herself to go get the cat.

Eliza Jane just wanted to help them. I didn´t like how Laura treated her. Sure she was his wife but Eliza was his sister. She just wanted to help and did what she thought was best for them.

Not in this part of the episode but I think it was an extreme when they show that Manly does not show any happiness at the birth of his baby girl: I know he is broken down inside but that doesn't mean he has to take it out on poor Laura: I don't particularly like him in these episodes although I feel sorry for what he goes through

Yes, I agree JaneAustenRules. I believe Almanzo's attitude was a bit extreme regarding the birth of his daughter. I really thought he was going to come around and forget about all of his sorrow... It hurt me to see him thinking of himself during the time of his dughter's birth. It was suppose to be a happy event in both Laura and Almanzo's life. I can't believe he ruined that moment...
