Wishbone Ash opened for the Allman Brothers' Band in 1971 three weeks before Duane Allman was tragically killed. Wishbone Ash was incredible!! That night they out staged the Allman Brothers... and that's saying a lot!
so god damn good.. loved them in the 70's and love them now.. nice to see the drummer up front!? looking for a song: no water in the well, by them, can't seem to find it? please post if any anyone has it... i love that song.. good to see a drummer up front!! love wba!
My all time favourite WA song. I still love it 40 years later. Too bad they never made it big in North America. Probably because they were a musicians band and didn't try to churn out hit after hit.
I've heard about these guys for a long, long time but this is the 1st time hearing & seeing them. Very impressed! Did W.A. ever make much headway in the States? Thanks for the tunes!
@rimbaud108 Thanks! From the few songs i've heard, I like them. I need to listen to more Cactus, another band I know about but am not that familiar with. It helps that Carmine Appice has been one of my influences as a drummer since I started back in circa 77-78.
Old bands like this were great.!! They didn't rely on multple overdubs to fix their mistakes..No pro tools or pitch correction, just good organic music played the way it was meant to be heard..What a concept .
I had no idea what rock and roll was until I heard Wishbone Ash... I can still vividly remember seeing them in 1973. It was weeks before I came out of the trance that Phoenix put me in. I saw most of the legendary bands, but none were better than Wishbone Ash!
Amazing how much can be said with so few lyrics.... The first time I heard this song, I felt an immediate connection with it. I've always been attracted to people significantly older than me, so the years in which I was "jail bait" were incredibly difficult for me. The line, "How many lonesome years?" always struck me the most, as a person can feel lonesome and isolated at any age. Fantastic song, legendary band.
The only thing Ted Turner had in common with Rory was that they both played fender strats through treble boosters. Apart from that they had nothing in common. Different personalities, influences and different singing and playing styles. Oh and Rory was irish. Long hair and flannel shirts were the fashion back then. We all looked like that. Except for andy who seems to be on a different trip in this movie, bless him. Pity there is no live sound - what you are hearing is straight off the record.
I've always thought one reason why they weren't a bigger name is that they rarely had anything short enough to fit into the standard three-minute AM formula. They were pretty much of an FM thing,
I saw this band 4 times in the early 70's.... not exactly what I would refer to as 'mainstream', but definitely well known among those who played or tried to play music. They are one of my all time favorite groups.
I saw this band 4 times in the early 70's.... not exactly what I would refer to as 'mainstream', but definitely well known among those who played or tried to play music. They are one of my all time favorite groups.
Wishbone Ash were actually a big band, and had a strong following in the hard/prog rock fraternity. Their albums sold well, so they did technically go big time !
this ,although a great track is just so "alike"fleetwood mac's earlier[bluesy]recordings[ie then play on]and peter greens style of playing cept for the dual guitar sound, still magic tho'cheers for posting.

wow, that sure takes me back. if I hadn't actually seen this vid I'd have never guessed the singer was playing a Strat. that was one of the most un-Strat sounding Strats I've ever heard! thx for the memories!
This was the best-ever Ash lineup. They did the Argus album, which was my fave for the day. Along with Yes-Fragile and Neil Young-Harvest, 1972 was a great album year (It also gave birth to first-timer Dan Fogelberg).
@jflinn210 You are right. '72 was THE year. Besides the ones you mentioned; Stones - Exile on main street, and Tull - thick as a brick. Best year ever, and I had a hot girlfriend.
I don't mean to sound cruel .......but THAT is NOT RORY. Ya the hair and the shirt might look like him......but he plays nowhere near as great as RORY and can't sing like RORY. This is Wishbone Ash.
Uhh...did not mean to infer it WAS Rory. Only that the Taste influence is undeniable. If there's a bigger Rory fan than myself, I haven't met him yet.
another of my favorite songs....Ted Turner always kicked as...Lori was about as you could/equal as you could get as a replacement for him...after that it's all fill.......

Usually the Turner on Bass does the singing. The Turner singing on this (I forgot their first names) lives in Scottsdale,AZ and his little boy was hit and killed by a drunk Rolls Royce driving jerk a few years ago.
These guys were extrremely popular at my highschool (west coast USA)when this came out.We absolutely loved Jailbait (just learning the meaning was so exciting to us innocent 15 years olds!). Wouldn't get much of that charm these days. It got heaps of play at parties. Hearing this
35 years later I know why we liked them so much. Great songs, guitar tones, vocals, etc. I was pleasantly suprised to catch them in Greece early 83. EC, Albert Lee, Duck Dunn passed through too.. $10!
The things Ted Turner taught me back then when I was a young musician...the glory of double lead guitar, teardrop pics and western plaid shirts...all important things to know about back in high school and beyond...
What I said, my friend was that the 60s and 70s were the best decades of rock and that the 80s and 90s were full of trash with some exceptions. Peace.
Cheers finally sum1 of my age again who likes good music!! on skool ya only got Metalheads (can be nice) rappers and hard core dudes-_- no Hippies and Hard Rockers:S
You're born in 1993? Me too and this is THE MUSIC! I listen to all kinds of 70's rock bands, and prog too. My favs are Wishbone Ash and Uriah Heep. Amazing song this one!
Wow. I probably shouldn't be, but I'm still always caught off guard to find someone who was born in the nineties getting off on bands like Wishbone Ash and Uriah Heep. You have excellent taste, sir. And it sure is nice to be able to find clips like this on YT.

Type 'Budgie' in the search box for some incredible 70's rock
BTW, love Wishbone Ash - I saw them loads of times a the Capitol Theatre, Cardiff - they were VERY loud & totally awesome!

I was a youth of the late 60s/70s. Saw these live a couple of times then. Really liked them

What I said, my friend was that the 60s and 70s were the best decades of rock and that the 80s and 90s were full of trash with some exceptions. Peace.

Wasn't even there (my name says all :( ) but I've already learned that that's true.
Wishbone Ash are wonderful - the 60's and 70's really were/ are the best years for real music! :)

Wow. I probably shouldn't be, but I'm still always caught off guard to find someone who was born in the nineties getting off on bands like Wishbone Ash and Uriah Heep. You have excellent taste, sir. And it sure is nice to be able to find clips like this on YT.
