  • It was really stupid of GM to kill this car. I'm glad to see there are still some lurking in real life, running or not. :-)

  • i bet gm is kicking there ass now.... even tho they have the volt

  • dude.. that interior LOOKS AWESOME!!!

  • must be a quiet ride...

  • Since it has no transmission, why is there such a huge center divider between driver and passanger. Is it the same for the rear passangers too? Also, the shape makes it look ridiculous and those buttons inside could have been simplified to just a handful. It's not a fighter jet to say the least, so no need to mimic a cockpit...

  • @s2000julius

It used large lead-acid batteries, so to keep the car from being tail or nose heavy, some of the batteries were stored in the middle of the car, necessitating the large console.

  • we will miss you

  • Oil is an important raw material for medicine and plastic. We should protect this raw material. The electric car is the only correct way!

  • i wish they could make a car like this again.

i mean that looked as slek on the inside as on the outside.

  • That was a short trip!!!

  • The whole Interstate system was designed by the pentagon so communites would be spread out and everyone would be dependent on gasoline. Then they keep fuel efficient alternitive vechicles in the dark. This is how society is controlled and you are kept in debt and made dependent on the system.

  • ELECTRIC FTW! I want a Detroit Electric or BYD!

  • How do you start it?

  • On the "Colbert Report" dated on 9/17/08 or episode# 117, found on Xbox live dashboard, Bob "the money hungru, stupidist person I have EVER laid eyes on" Lutz doesn't believe in climate change. He could really care less, the only reason why GM is building the Volt, is simple. It still uses gas. GM is betting very heavy that the Volt will bring GM back to the same level as every other company, to stay competitive. Frankly, they need to go out of business, I'd rather support Tesla...!!!!!

  • Why not support Nissan since they are coming out with a full electric car. The Nissan Leaf seems pretty cool!

  • @brettkling nope, It's another shitlectric car with no autonomy.

  • Oh and another reason why they don't do electric is because they DON"T WEAR OUT! LOL... The EV1 was a test. Why make a car that hardly ever needs replacing? Plus battery technology isn't where it should be because oil magnates buy the patents and shelve the technology away.

  • Rick Wagoner the CEO of GM had stock in exxon and this car would have put big oil out of business so Wagoner killed it in 2003.

The ev1 could have owned the road by now

  • Why did they crush them all

  • oil companies weren't making any money off of this car so they paid GM to recall them and crush them all.

  • Ummm, but we're running out of oil, so this car would have been a good thing :-S

  • yep, and that's where they messed up. they got greedy and look at them now. they did this because oil equals more money but if there's no oil then yeah...

  • because GOD OIL say so!

  • Watch "Who killed the electric car".

  • 40 are left.

  • If that centre console is stock, then that is some pimped out aircraft cockpit inspired awesomeness right there!

    I hate our world...

  • Dealerships hated this car. There was so little maintenance, they complained to GM - no oil changes, no transmission fluid flushing, no spark plugs or air filters... All the dealer got to do was rotate the tires, fill up the washer fluid and check the brakes. There was no money in these for dealers (or obviously the oil barons). Great for the people buying the cars...

  • man, thats the point, no anything! than some belts changes after long millage, battery change after no less than 3 years, some cosmetic repairment, some software upgrade, and of course, tires, and thats it!

  • That was the best car ever!!! hw sad that GM killed thems......i would had bought one...

  • Thanks for videotaping this! Greeting from Germany.

  • Thank you for videotaping this wonderful car for prosperity. I didn't realize how smooth and quite they were.

  • Whoever got to own that car is lucky

  • WHat I find quite amusing is that now, GM is getting bailed out by the government, because they are losing money like a shitfest. Really? Whats funny is that they had the chance to lead the way in almost everything. They said no, and everyone else jumped in and GM just decided to start making horrible interiors for fun.

  • should be bailout GM using taxpayers money? or let them suffer and die ?

  • Van Halen Finish what ya Started, one of the best songs off of OU812

  • What's the song playing there?

  • Van Halen, Finish What Ya Started... Fitting no? It just happened to be on the radio at the time.

  • Haha. Killing the EV1 was GM's worst mistake. I would have gone out of my way to own one, if only they would have mass produced them. An attractive, futuristic car that apparently had almost no reliability issues. With today's technology, they could now mass-produce batteries for these at lower cost and greater capacity. I find the Volt highly ugly, while also, as it runs on gasoline as well, completely defeating the name "ELECTRIC vehicle".

Congrats, GM. You lost yet another future customer.

  • no problem

  • Van Halen "Finish what Ya Started" From the OU812 album.

  • God i miss that car, that thing was fast enough for me to get a freaking ticket

  • Tom Hanks said the same about the car...lol

  • How did this EV1 slip GM? want to know how to save the Volt when they releise it. They might give it the same treatment as the EV1s

  • Have you watched 'Who killed the electric car'?

GM will probably do the same. They have taxpayers money now. It's a carrot and donkey affair. They'll dangle the Volt until fuel costs come down and then say 'Oh, you don't really need this electric car now sir, however we do have this Hummer on special offer' Jokers.

  • @TheFlatBat i just watched that yesterday night, its a damn shame fucking government and GM basterds

  • @TheFlatBat

THANK YOU!! Glad I'm not the only one who saw that (ie. Who Killed the Electric Car) and knows why car companies are still in the past instead of the future!! Sadly the only way to fix it is to not buy gasoline powered cars, but we all know that is impossible, unless you live in NY.. If it wasn't for monopolies like the oil companies, maybe our government and car companies wouldn't be so corrupt!!

  • @TheFlatBat And now you know why I aint buyin one.

  • @TheFlatBat but at least, now they are selling the damn car, not just leasing it, and having the chance to take them back and crushing them.

  • People would camp in front of the dealer for 2 weeks if the EV1 was sold ! No demand, my arse.

  • Yeah! I can only laugh at GM today when you look at the waitinglist for the Aptera Typ-1 (fully electric car made by Aptera). GM you are more foolish than I could have ever possibly imagine. WHAT IF you would have kept the EV1 today when it's past 4 dollars per gallon.

  • you drove a 5 minuite walk down the street?

  • Yes we drove it about two blocks in the morning, then we drove to the beach, then up the coast, and then to a movie, I think we did about 120 miles that day.

  • Ahhh i thought you were being "American" and driving somewhere where it'd be quicker on foot

  • Well actually... The reason that I was driving the car is because I went on a ~2000 mile road trip in my Insight Hybrid for the sole purpose of renting this EV1 for a day before they were crushed and I missed out on the chance to ever drive one. It's sad what GM did to that car. It had the same 2 seats capacity but was much more "peppy" than mine, I'd love to be driving an EV1 instead of my dirty Insight ;O I would have probably created a range extending gas engine trailer for long trips.

  • Yep. I bet Bush had something to do with it, the oil baron bastard!

  • Bush had nothing to do with it which is surprising. It was Texaco and GM that did all the damage.

  • @Jones240 - Haha, it's funny cuz you're trying to start some internet drama but no one's really caring xD

  • Una nave espacial muy botoneada

  • Thise EV1's would make for a good platform for a family of cars to bring back Oldsmobile.

  • Oldsmobile is dead no matter what which is really sad. All because Olds were actually good GM had to stop production.

  • To find out what happened to these, get the film "Who Killed The Electic Car".

  • Are there ANY EV1s left on the roads in America today?? Please let me know

  • An EV1 came to our monthly 2007 Dec meeting seattleevaDOTorg/wiki/GM_EV1#Live_EV1

  • I just love how all the light indicators just lights up the whole dash, awesome!

  • forget all the silly small minded comments. this is no joke. our world needs this technology now, it needed it then. thank you to those who post video of this idea in motion! and thank you to all you "backyarders" who perpetuate the idea and propogate the technology. we do not inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our kids!!!!

  • we do not inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our kids!!!!

    Well said.

  • hahahahaha great car terrible music

  • Actually the music is ironic:

"Baby (GM) come on finish (with Volt) what you (EV1) started"

  • No chance. The volt is a bogus PR stunt, only the naive believe.

"only the naive believe" should be GM's swan song.

  • Time will tell...

We did see a car carrier full of EV's on I-10 last week while we visited Calif.

They looked like the Brazilian things..

  • Did you guys hear what Bob Lutz said? That global warming was bullshit and that he said that "hybrids make no economic sense". Guys we should stick to new EV-companies like Tesla, Phoenix Motorcars, Miles and of course, Aptera.

  • I'm actually interested in buying a Tesla. Jay Leno has one and loves it.

  • Hmmm... GM had a shot at dominating the car market forever and they put it in a crusher.

  • lol, just like american businesses. they dont know what the hell they had until they crushed it. LOL and its never the same after that.

  • In the 70's XEROX had a chance to dominate the PC market and one top exec said "No one has any need for a personal computer, the money is in copiers" the rest is history.

  • "Honda never made an electric car"

They made the Honda EV+. Want to try that again?

  • i never said honda made a electric car. *smack* read it again. however they did make and were the first in the USA to market a hybrid. It was called the INSIGHT.

  • Honda did make the EV+ !!

    seattleevaDOTorg/wiki/Honda_EV_Plus

  • thank you i knew i wasnt going crazy. fuckin raisinjeff is a retarded pig fucker. ugh i cannot stand these republican assholes.

  • take a look at hondaEV (dot) org for description of the honda EV

  • it dosnt matter anyway. I have owned a honda product for the past going on 10 years. I had a civic sold it when it had 289k miles, a acura legend that had near 400k miles, a accord with 250k miles that i sold, and my current accord which has 118,xxx miles, all with no problems and sounds new.

  • the hilarious and completely ironic fact about the EV1 is that it was extremely well-engineered, as explained by many former ev1 owners in the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car?. When was the last time anyone has ever called a GM car "well-engineered?!" These things need to make a comeback. that's what will save gm and the american car industry in the 21st century.

  • It is... Google "Chevrolet Volt". It fixes all the problems the EV1 had.

  • turn that lame ass music off so we can listen to the engine you ass

  • What a cool dash layout.

  • this is the only gm car that i like. now after they done away with it i will never buy a gm product EVER. I will stick with honda and toyota. At least they have the balls to sock it to these fucking oil companies.

  • I AGREE. Before all this controversy started I would never even think of buying a Japanese car, I guess things change.

  • GM's making another better version called the Volt. Look it up, it will be under the Chevy badge.

  • yes i saw that they are coming out with the volt... lets just hope their hybrid technology is better than fords on the escape where the engine compartment cought on fire from the abs module.

  • Hey dumbass did you ever see the documentary "Who killed the electric car" ? Toyota did the exact same same thing with their rav-4 evs that GM did with the ev1. They're no better than GM in this whole electric car debacle. Honda never made an electric car, they made the insight hybrid instead. Educate yourself before you make such baseless claims.

  • either way it dosnt really matter. honda and toyota are well above the game in tomorrows technology. honda is already producing a honda civic in 2008 that uses hydrogen. it is going to be marketed in california and new york until they can get their hydrogen infrastructure built up.

  • and before you start calling people dumbasses maybe you will want to look at the way american car companies are doing. they are charging 25grand + for their cars that only last for no more than 80 to 120k miles. i was wasting time the other day and went to a car lot a dodge neon with 20 k miles on it when started sounded like a car that had 1 million miles on it. engine knocked like i dont know what. funny thing was, it was driven by a older lady....

  • Sorry I called you a dumbass that wasnt very nice of me.Seriously though most American cars aren't that bad.I have a pontiac that just got to 60,000 mi w/o any problems and my dad has a buick regal that made it to 200K on its original engine and tranny.Lots of the older chrysler products are really crappy esp. the ones with mitsu engines. We had an 80's chrysler van when I was a kid and the thing caught on fire in our driveway.

  • are you stupid? Where are the Toyota and Honda EV's that were competing w/ GM at the time? They're not here anymore either! They ALL quit making these! Not just GM!

  • Toyota caved in and sold their RAV-e EV's Someone in our club owns one. Honda did make an EV called the "EV Plus", as did Nissan, Ford made an electric Ranger, and you guessed it Dodge had an electric minivan the EPIC or TEVan. GM also had an electric version of the S-10, a few of those are owned by individuals, I know a family who owns three.

  • actually, Toyota voluntarily sold the last 328 Toyota RAV4-EV during Mar. and Nov., 2002, then abruptly cancelled the program when there were more orders than cars! They didn't deliver the last one until Sept, 2003.

  • One of those just recently sold on EBAY for $68,000. Yeah....no demand.
