@everyone, all this bickering will become irrelevant when there are no more music stores in the computer age. I bought this cd at at Music Den, a small music store in the 90s just like the store in high fidelity that is now a Quiznos. I loved looking for hidden gems in that store but that is a thing of the past now...
@leecooker she was just quoting a movie line and you took it as her personal opinions and have made yourself look like a tool on the Internet, well done sir. This shall be here forever.
"I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like... Books, records, films - these things matter. Call me shallow but it's the fuckin' truth"
@moria06 Its not shallow, but a totally unprovable phenomenon that is a very fascinating trait amongst humans. We judge each other on matters of taste regularly. However, since taste is 100% subjective, forming grander, more provable, evidential, and qualitative arguments about taste, beyond "I think this is good or I think this sucks" is totally impossible.
@leecooker did u notice that what i wrote was in quotations? it's a direct line from the movie High Fidelity, which this song was featured in. Get over yourself Socrates.
@queeneggplant lol Beck Hanson was cranking stuff out a good five, almost 10 years before Beta Band :) I would say it's the other way around. But hey, that's why I love this song. We need Brit Pop back!
High Fidelity was wow... Just checked it out, on a point I thought movies wouldn't surprise me anymore, new good music wasn't there to be found and then it hit me!
Timeless tune, yeah? This reminds me of the good times when me and the boys wold raid McLaren and we would Find a log to smoke a joint or ten on. To be a kid again.
@fingerboardingfool I think that at leats 80% around the world listen this song first in this great movie. Anyway, Beta Band goes far beyond this and, for sure, is a great band!
@enochjames No. A hipster is someone who purposely likes odd things to try to seem different. They are people looking for attention. There's nothing classy about it. And who the hell forgot about wine? Liking wine doesn't make someone a hipster. You're delusional.
Honestly, hipster is just like hippie, beatnick, punk. The people who hate them have always been the jerkoffs of history. They can't understand how we like these strange fashions, or these strange new songs fun to listen too.
Hipsters are taking things people forgot in other decades and showing them love. Hipsters are a classy culture who appreciates all the good stuff people forgot, like wines, nice and/or offbeat and/or handmade clothes, hats, music art and cinema. I'm proud to be a hipster.
@enochjames i wish i knew what youre talking about, nothing in here describes a hipster. Also, when did wine become forgotten? And i feel offended, for the true hippies out there. Your are crazy.
@enochjames sorry dont mean to burst your bubble but hipsters, like all those genres you mentioned, could only appear in time periods in which they appeared. You cant be a hipster, but you CAN really dig hipster music.
If this song was made by the betales it would have been considered as an all time classic!!! Everytime I listen to it I remember the great time I have living in UK.
Did it ever occur to any of you that its use in the movie is ironic... ie. it is mocking the hipster ethos that loves the song in the first place??!! lol
@JamesJoyce12 Why? What the fuck's wrong with being a hipster! I on the other hand heard this song because i actually liked the band when they were around. These shite american films put these songs on as a way of trying to be funny and also because they know they can pay the band peanuts in the process in a look at us were so clever kind of way. I had the same arguement over the pulp song like a friend. Loads of venture bros kids writing in cos they heard it on a kids tv show. Get tired of it!
Oh, it actually is: The song is by the band Royal Trux and it's called "Inside Game". You'll find it on the High Fidelity soundtrack as well as on the EP "Radio Video".
You're welcome. Just check the soundtracks of movies you watch, you'll be surprised how easy it sometimes gets to find the songs you're looking for ;-D
An easy way to get a lot of infos is to search discogs.com, and of course wikipedia (the english site often has tracklists of songs that were in a movie or on the soundtrack or at least shows some links to other sites).
Lying on my back in the desert, looking at the deep blue sky with no clouds in it, a warm breeze shifting the sands, rising the dust. Shadow of a cactus on my eyes, the flower of this cactus visible as I look at the sky. A lizard sitting on a rock not far, warming itself. Just lying there, doing nothing, breathing in the hot air, feeling the world and the nothingness.
Wonder how many views this would have if it hadn't been featured on 'High Fidelity'? Prob less than half. Being on the soundtrack to a classic film never hurts. These guys were hailed as the future of music by the NME when they emerged in 1999, which they obviosuly weren't. Still, great song, none of their others come anywhere close to this.
This song reminds me of all that I never had and could have remembered more indepth: a sister and brother in law that are now in Eastern Europethat I may never get to see again, a potential girl that I shoul have wooed when I had the chance and life opportunities in general that were pushed aside and snuffed.
+0p$#!+ Heard this song on the radio today and made me miss my brother, DJ who passed nearly 10 years ago. His birthday is the day after tomorrow and I will be thinking of him all day and wishing he could hear some new music that I like these days.
@mickdimas sorry about your brother boss...its funny how songs can trigger emotions like that. every time i hear this song it reminds me of drinking beer with my dad and uncles, getting hammered at the bonne carre spillway in louisiana. all three of them are deceased and i think of them every time i hear this song
@andmaketherain I didn't know the name of the song at first and so I thought it was "Take me and drive away," until I listened a little more carefully.
Easily one of my favourite songs, I mean I know it's nothing genre defying or groundbreaking but this song, it's just gorgeous and I feel so relaxed when I hear it :P
