Hans Teeuwen is an acquired taste. It was risky and a bit unimaginative to simply take a literal translation of the Nostradamus song and assume people elsewhere are going to find that funny. Much of his wit lies in the way he puts a mirror up to the audience, which simply works best in the culture you're from. It's like watching Seinfeld and wondering what's so funny. Not our culture.

His later English shows were written for a British audience and are much better, and still.. he's best in Dutch.

The audience make me ashamed to be a Brit. Supposedly the UK is a haven for intelligent comedy and breaking taboos.

And yet this audience in one fell swoop shatters that illusion, with a fine display of ignorance and bad taste. Hans is an amazing comic, his comedy is very intelligent, I would have hoped that UK audiences could grasp that. Thankfully, his Leicester Square crowd gave him a better response.

When he first entered the stage in Holland, there were also people leaving the theatre, because they probably didn't understand his unique, brillant and (for some people)rude way of thinking. i was there and all i recall is wondering around with a load of strangers at 4 o'clock in the morning asking if anyone had acid, not exactly middle class is it? and what about the raves, they didn't really appear to be middle class, the only middle calss people were the day ticket holders because i sure as hell didn't see them camping
