  • Yes & to add again, if they played like us & we played like them, I would have joined you "Russian Haters" a long time ago, and with plenty of good reasons!

  • I believe that every Canadian player knows, the Russians were by far the better team & again, with out the wink & nod of the officials they would be hard pressed to come with in 6 goals of the far superior Russians.

This comes from a Canadian that really wishes that we played like them & vice versa. But I see what I see & if you want to see where I come from go to unnamed00 & watch "How Canada Won the 1987 Canada Cup" & other vids. I dislike dirty play & U can C it in spades in his vids.

  • @FARQUDA -You are chalked full of shit! Why not show @3:03 where the Hawerchuk penalty should have been called. Not that one penalty won the game, Can. gets away with at least 90% of infractions, many are Major penalties.

I just witnessed a game between Boston Alumni with Bourque, Middleton, Wensink, O'Reilly, & all the other so called stars play the Russians. It was no contest, Russians won 11-4, for a joke! & typical, Boston got away with a lot a shit, or the score could have been much more

  • @FARQUDA -& they were not # 1 in 1979, when the NHL shut down for about 10 days to play the "SERIES OF THE CENTURY", a title soon dropped & not heard of again!

You know, if you don't see it, it didn't happen.

After splitting the first 2 games, Russia plays without "K"(side lined by a goon) & without "T". 6-0 would be the final score, with an unknown 5"6" Mushkin in net.

2011/12, russia wins under 17, Sweden wins Juniors, Davos wins Spengler, so who is #1? If penalties arecalled, Can. = 6th/ 8th

  • bullshit ? fuckin jjudges

  • just read the Canadian fans' posts here- you guys are so hilarious )))) your team wins a hockey game- and you immediately proclaim yourself the best trying to escape from the bitterness and soreness of numerous earlier losses ... Cmon it's just a sport game, trying winning real wars ... I hope that real Canucks are different types

BTW, no Russian here used derogatory statements about Canada and Canadians, so it seems that the question about who is a sore loser has been answered

  • To all the jealous comments coming from Russian fans on here claiming that Canada cheated in this game to win... That is really funny because in my opinion Russian hockey players cheat more than any other nation....Russians dive and embellish to draw penalties all the time....and the Soviets did everything they could to win those games in Moscow in 72...We spent half the game in the penalty box and still won. Canada won this series fairly....Russians are just sore losers.

  • Russia?? ... it was still Soviet at that time, CCCP.

  • Where is this video clip from??are there more?

  • @ceeraydeefer The video 'Mario, Mike and mr Greatness' I believe it was called

  • 3:02. It is visible as force down the Soviet hockey player who runs with Lemieux. On other video reviews it is well visible. If it have not brought down, the goal would not be.

  • @YuraGagarin

exactly, another video shows Hawerchuk slashing Bykov who would've been right there to intercept

  • Regardez la passe de Lemieux en sorti de zone : les mains inversées !!

  • with a neutral referee Canada would lose every game 6:3. Trust me....

  • Not to mention neutral Ice!

  • @Yanke811: That is a non starter as at that time, Canada was the only country that was willing to put in the time, effort and money to stage such a tournament, let alone fill the stands for all the games.

  • @Imschnee Sit down. You don't know what you're talking about. You're either a sore losing Russian or a stupid American.

  • Did anyone get goosebumps when that goal was scored?

  • ellery sneed thank you for this video and thanks for the memories. i cant thank you enough. all the people who critize canada of playing dirty are somewhat right, but the russians played somewhat dirty too. but the hawerchuk hook on bykov was almost non existant as you clearly explained. hope the fucking russians and any russian sympathizers realize that. thanks again! canada rules the hockey world always.

  • we killed you mother fucking russians again in 87 canada cup. dont ever forget that. you think the lemieux goal should have been disallowed. haha. bykov took the dive of his life, in true russian cheap character. you know canada was better than the fucking russians and if it wasnt for a few roster mishaps canada would have levelled the russians totally. note scott stevens, wendel clark and denis savard didnt play. put those guys in there instead of crossman, hartsburg and sutter.

  • You know that on neutral Ice the Soviets would have kicked your asses!

  • @Yanke811 Too bad the U.S. had nothing to do with. Pipe down little guy.

  • "he lures the soviet defender to flop like a mullet" lol!

I owned Tretiak's book as a kid and it comes through pretty clear that the soviets were often frustrated at how rough north americans played. The finesse and team play of the soviets was the best there ever was.

Still, I find it an interesting dichotomy how much russians complain of rough canadian hockey and turn a blind eye to things like their brutal invasion of afghanistan. You won't find cheating roughhouse Canada doing that.

  • it didn't matter where they were playing i don't think...gretz and mr mario would have done their magic.

  • On neutral ice the Soviets would have beaten Canada easily. Everyone kmows that.

  • No they would not have beaten Canada. The Soviets scored 2 goals in this game where a penalty should have been called. WATCH THE GAME OBJECTIVELY, NEUTRALLY, AND YOU WILL SEE THAT BOTH TEAMS HOOK, HOLD AND GRAB EACH OTHER. IN FACT, THE SOVIETS BLATANTLY HUG PLAYERS AND HOLD THEM. STOP TAKING ANYTHING AWAY FROM CANADA. BOTH TEAMS WERE GREAT, CANADA JUST HAD A BIT MORE.

  • canada had amazing players, but with fair judging the soviets would have won (the canadians were allowed to hook, grab, trip soviet players without getting penalized time after time, same thing has happened lots of times when canadian and US teams have faced european hockey teams).

but i also realize that the soviet team had the advantage of training together for longer periods of time than the canadians.

gretzky and mario sure could play, but so could krutov and makarov!

  • yep, unsportmanship, gretzky hawerfuck and lemieux isnt the greatest line ever. Soviet would beat them any time with neutral refrees

  • @lordraven1980

good point, I saw another compilation from the same series showing about like 20 Gretzky's hookings that went unnoticed, here for example-

@3:02 (one can barely see it on this video) Hawerchuk's should've been given a penalty for hooking Bykov , but the referee is not blowing the whistle. Otherwise, Bykov would've clearly been in the way to stop the pass

anyhow, good auld hockey game, kinda miss it

  • THE GREAT LINE.....Mike Keenen puts together......Gretsky....Hawerchuck...Lemieux.............HAWERCHUCK!

  • HA WERCHUCK! Hoooooocker!!!

  • ... and the great bunch of cheaters win!!!

  • Right, and if you think a penalty should have been called on the last goal Canada scored, taking that goal away, then the Russians should have not have scored 2 goals this game, where they hooked players and went in to score. In that case, the final score would have been 5-3 for Canada. If you watch the all the games, you can see that both the Russians and the Canadians hook and hold each other. That was just the way the game was played back then.

  • That's pathetic. I'd have been ashamed if my team scored a game-winner like that, but canadians make that pathetic movie... Way to go to make you people proud.

  • Where is the dive??
