  • My fave episode ever!!!! lol

  • Funny, he's spoofing his own song

  • Wow, this traumatized me as a child. Every time I hear this song, I think of this video. It introduced to me what molested was.

  • Smoky sang with such passion though it was a sesame street skit. That was the beauty of Sesame Street. IT WAS REAL

  • The letter U is a pervert lol

  • Does anyone know what year this was? I loved this when I was really little too...

  • i LOVED this when i was a kid! bc Motown was always played in my house so i was able to sing along with the song and laugh! this didn't creep me out at all. but i seem to recall a cartoon where a giant lollipop was chasing some little girl that used to freak me out lol.

  • used to love this as a kid funny stuff

  • This video makes me Uncomfortable.

  • Wow, Smokey Robinson being sexually molested by the letter U

  • this used to make me run outta the room crying as a small child

  • This is the one that as a kid always creeped me out because U was grabbing Smokey awfully close to the crotch area. I had recently learned about pedophiles and what to do if someone touched my privates from my parents and thought that U was molesting Smokey.

  • @JamiJR

Well, I'd like to think that the U was simply being friendly. If she did touch Smokey's privates no doubt she would apologize. She's just a very friendly letter, didn't mean to upset.

  • Lmfao classic Sesame Street

  • Smokey Robinson should sing this with U at his concerts. Or he can go on the street and form a hobo band.

  • this was my favorite sesame street EVER when i was a kid! Now my 3 year old laughs hysterically over it

  • Didja know this version of the song was rewritten specifically FOR sesame street?

  • lol poor Smokey

  • Sounds like Gordon was a backup singer in this song

  • haha that U is creepy

  • like a bad dream

  • THIS IS SO CUTE !! LOL

  • This Is From 1984-1985

  • Poor Smokey

  • What Brand Name Of Necklace Is Smokey Wearing?

  • What Brand Name Of Clothing Is Smokey Wearing?

  • Who Puppeteered The Letter "U"?

  • This brings back so many memories of my childhood. Back when television was meaningful and soulful. Really miss those days a lot! Thanks for the upload!

  • Say what you will about that U but she's no dummy. I'd grab him too. Beautiful eyes, gorgeous smile, lovely complexion, excellent songwriter (tracks of my tears, better shop around etc etc). Smokey's the whole package.

  • CUTE

  • you realy got a hold on me i just love this song

  • I remember over Memorial day weekend, I was camping with my family. My 16 year old niece let me listen to her MP3 player. I was flipping through her songs. And of course like any teenager, she had rap and hip hop. Well all of a sudden this song came on, and I was in shock. I gave her this surprised look and she started laughing saying Smokey was one of her favorite singers. All I can say she is one teenager that does have taste in some good classic music....lol

  • its a bit dirty thats why

  • This is a Sesame Street classic right here. I can remember the morning this played on Sesame Street, me and the sibs were cracking up over this. Man, those old Sesame Street skits were so funny!

  • I miss the days when kids programming was intelligent and funny. Jim Henson managed to create a show that was both kid-friendly, entertaining for grown-ups, and *gasp* educational..

  • This clip reminded me of watching U along with Bonji Collins and friends back in the day when everyone really enjoyed learning.

  • Pedo Bear, meet Pedo U

  • Damn crossed eyed bitches always grabbin on poor Smokey!

  • Vintage Sesame Street meets Vintage Motown. If I were eating Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls while watching this, it would have been perfect.

  • lol hilarious

  • so awesome

  • This was The Miracles' second million- seller, after "Shop Around".

  • Wow, I remember this. I had no idea who Smokey Robinson was at the time. Now that I do, this is exponentially more funny and awesome than it already was.

  • damn elmo took the spotlight he needs intervention

  • at 2:13 the U literally starts raping him XD

  • @1937773 lmao 4 real!

  • @1937773 i say it was raping him the whole time

  • This skit never gave me nightmares. I loved it as a kid, and I still love it now. Besides, I think the female U is really hot. I mean, talk about a sexy letter! I love her lips, her eyes, and she's red, my favorite color in the world.

  • Gotta say...when I was little and first saw this, I watched my back for rogue letter U's for a week straight

  • This scared the hell out of me as a child. I was so scared for Smokey lol.

  • That U really really really likes him LOL

  • I didn't know Richard Pryor could sing.

  • @GettoBretto Lol. That wasn't Richard Pryor. That was the Legendary Smokey Robinson.

  • @shandarius I know.

  • I reeeeeally, really like this bit as a kid. I was totally fascinated.

I didn't know why until I became an adult!

  • This brought such a smile to my face. I loved this as a child, despite how scared of that "U" i was!!

  • you know, I saw this as a kid and itʻs all I ever think of anytime I hear anybody perform the original. Iʻm telling you, through my teenage Beatle-obsessed years I kept thinking, "so John Lennon was stalked by a giant U as well?" lol

  • BEST CLASSIC SONG OF SESAME STREET!!!!!

  • lol you can make out the out line of the U's muppeteer.

  • I just heard an interview on the Diane Rehm show and Smokey said that this is also one of his favorite memories.

  • Why can't Sesame Street be like this anymore? All you see is Elmo all over the place.

  • @eazyegee I Second That!

  • @eazyegee i know right? as a kid i loved watching it and i learned :) but not anymore :( all good things must come to an end i guess.

  • @eazyegee I am soooo sick of Elmo. I won't let my kid watch it cause of him.

  • @eazyegee you should see the German Sesame Street, it's awful...

  • @eazyegee Exactly my sentiment! And, Elmo talks baby talk which is NOT endearing.

  • @feadeli OMG!

  • I don't know what made me remember this today. I think it's over 20 years old. Whatever, it's my favorite memory of Sesame Street ever. I was laughing my ass off back then and it still makes me laugh.

  • My favorite clip of Sesame Street of ALL time. Loved it then, still love it now. :)

  • Can't believe I'm watching this some twenty five+ years later with my four year old... classic Sesame Street with great musicians, although this one used to scare me as a child! ;-)

  • I was never into Sesame Street as a kid, but my son loves it, so we watch a good deal of it now. I absolutely LOVE this bit. My other favourite is the one with Bert and Ernie doing the fish call. XD Good stuff.

  • i remember watchin this as a youngin....the good old days

  • @Philly2dabone i have it on dvd.

  • @moodychick83 cool....this is when television made sense

  • I normally hate when people sing the beatles music but this is really cute

  • @Ida10000 Smokey Robinson did the original song with The Miracles. The Beatles just did a cover of it.

  • @Realmusicisgood909 oh yes i just forgot sorry it is just because I know it as "the real one" when beatles sing it. I grow up with the beatles and haven't heard enything else ;D

  • this is not a beatles song!! this is a miracles song......

  • @Ida10000

Did the Beatles write this song, I thought Smokey wrote it?

  • @045781 The original is performed by The Miracles, The Beatles only covered it, smokey wrote the song

  • @1937773

Yes, that is what I always thought.

    Thank you......

  • I agree, Seiai. The ending is nice when Smokey and the female U come to terms, and walk away together in love.

  • I really love this skit now and even as a kid. I think I found his expression especially delightful back then. As a sign of my age, as I smile thinking, "Ah! That letter is sexually harassing him." It's nice that they finally come to terms at the end.

  • This was one of my favorite skits. Maybe I'm just a weirdo, because everyone else seemed to be creeped out by it!

  • Thanks for posting this!! This kinda bothered me too as a kid.. now its' HILARIOUS!!!

  • thanks smokie.....lol

  • It does.

  • yup I agree with allyuh, this vid was scary back in the days... but the one that really frighten meh was when Ernie bounce up the Pharaoh in the Pyramid!

  • @markbruce80 nah boy, i agree with yuh full horse

  • This one really freaked me out when I was little! She wont let him go!!!

  • Oh wow! I remember this so vividly! Was at grandma's house. Love it!

  • just another example of sesame street's timeless brilliance...

  • This one used to creep me out so much lol. but i still watched it anyway. lol

  • Why did it creep you out, Damuzikal1? It's just typical silliness. I didn't understand that it was a parody of the Smokey Robinson song, until I heard the actual song years later on the radio.

  • @Jibjub80 I mean, now I find this hilarious. When I was younger I thought it was creepy, because in my eyes (at age 4 or 5) it was creepy that the U wont let him go, and it seemed to me like the U is attacking the singer, and it's floating all over the place. . . . so at age 4 that was creepy to me. Now, i think its pretty funny

  • SO DID I!!!! Oh my goodness. I'm 26 now and when I was little I used to cry and yell for 'her' to leave him alone. I always hated this skit. Always! The reason I got on here is because my brother and mother were just laughing about it and wanted me to look it up.

  • @earthygreen OMG I used to think the same thing as well! I kept getting frustrated at her for harrassing him haha

  • Wow, this didn't scare me at all when I was a kid. this is one of my favorite memories of sesame street. i don't see how that U is threatening at all.

  • This one freaked me out when I was a little kid. I found out later this scared alot of other kids who saw it. How did the producers of Sesame Street think this would be appropriate for kids to watch?

  • @Nathanial1978 Seriously? Alot of kids were afraid of this? Well, I'm glad to see that alot of other kids felt the same way. I'm in my twenties and this still makes me squirm...that is sad. Obviously this traumatized me as a child...after all these years, I'm still feeling anxious while watching it...geez.

  • Yeah I was surprissed to see that this scene freaked alot of other people out when they were kids. I just don't understand how the powers that be at Sesame Street felt this would be appropriate for young children to watch. I mean look at it. It appears as though that U is attacking him or something. I still wonder why Smokey Robinson agreed to appear in this scene.

  • Did'nt scare me.I thought it was kind of funny! That U grabbing that guy and not letting him go,LOL!

  • I swear, whenever I hear this on the radio, I keep thinking of this version, and trying to interject these lyrics!

"being grabbed by a letter is unappealing!" But I can't blame the U either :)

  • Mendiga U castrosa jajajaja Me encantó la canción

  • Awesome song by Motown legend Smokey Robinson, and I always love that gorgeous female letter U holding onto him, and not letting go.

  • Yes,it is awesome song.I loved it when he got grabbed by that U,LOL!

  • Oh man, I was obsessed with this when I was little.

  • i remember listing this song with my mom i miss you rip???????/

  • Is that Smokey Robinson

  • Yeah,the one and only.

  • They make friends in the end. Happy ending.

  • I am guessing early 80's
