Yeah, I guess you could say that compared to UP. It's on the original site of the V&T shops in Virginia City.
But they did all the work to restore the #29 including extensive boiler work. It's actually one of very few places in Nevada where they can do that kind of work. NSRM and Ely would be others.
NSRM is hardly a place I would consider capable of doing such steam locomotive restoration work, though it is possible. Financially, I don't see them doing a restoration anytime soon.
Sorry I haven't posted new videos for awhile. I've been busy and RR video has been waaayyy on the backburner. If some troll posts nasty comments I apologize if I don't delete them quickly.
The Gold Hill Historical Society is now storing the #8 for the Feather River Shortline group, at least the part of the group run by John Tyson of Channel 8. There are a lot of other members of FRSL who were never consulted.
The #8 was damaged while under care of the V&T, and the FRSL made a bigger deal out of it than necessary. There was almost a lawsuit, and the Gray's did a lot of work to repair it. I suppose Tyson might run #8 on the V&T tracks but I don't see #8 leading a V&T train.
I'd be interested to know what you mean by "boiler leak." I wonder if that's the reason for the low boiler pressure? Should be a 180psi boiler, at least. Nice the see the 29 back in service anyway.
Not sure it was a boiler leak per se, the boiler was decertified several years ago per FRA regs and it took them until now to get it re-certified. I'm doing a history of the Grays and this railroad later this month, I'll get some better details.
The boiler now runs at 170+ psi, I think the safety valve is set for 170-172.
Oh, I finally see what you mean by low boiler pressure, the locomotive was just being fired up in this video and wasn't up to full steam until Part II.
Just noticed for the first time the audio is out of sync with the video at 2:20. Shame on me!

#8 passed her FRA inspection and will be moved to Gold Hill for protected storage my sources indicate.

No, and especially not on the V&T, it's in storage at Gold Hill.

may i ask the reason why?
and by Gold Hill, you mean the same Gold Hill, thats at the end of the V&T line right?
