Who ever said bowflex doesn't work is a dumb ass! The real truth is if you actually use it you will see faster results than free weights.. For real you can do multiple upper body work outs from one sittin position and will gain wicked muscle growth with proper calories cause of the constant resistance you feel more burn and better for joints!
@Forgeth3Bulletz yes it does. by consuming less calories each meal 5 times a day, your body does not store unwanted body fat, instead it burns the calories consume and the fat deposites in your body and uses it to repair and build your muscles and at the same time lose fat.
I do 7 days a week cardio 600cal burn, 3 days a week bowflex abs and pecs, for 5 weeks now. My pants are falling off my ass but my weight has not changed much. It actually fluctuates up and down like 2 to 3 pounds.
Get one, you'll see Bowflex are great. I got rid of all of my free weights except 1 pair of dumbells. I love my Blowflex. I traded a little Bersa Thunderf .380 pistol for a bowflex XTL with the lat pulldown and leg add-ons plus it has the extra 50 lb power rods. This thing will work you out like crazy !
I don't understand why people don't just do squats pushups and sit-ups every other day for around half an hour, that's all I do and I'm pretty toned... Best part is that it's fuckin FREE
Well, it has worked for me. In my late 40s and used to use free weights but my joints can't stand it anymore. I have the cheapest Bowflex in the basement and works great for me. The resistance at the end of the repitition prevents strain on my joints and allows me to keep using it routinely, rather than free weights which take the most effort at the start of the rep. AT $750 total it was half the price of the treadmill my wife got 5 years ago.
??? I was a size 20 now a size 10. It works great for me, I have the same bowflex too. I do not diet. Just watch the sugar. I got the bowflex on cragslist for $400 brand new. It works if you have the will.
I have the original model Bowflex, but the "power bands" are basically the same on all models. I use real weights as well though. (Currently favoring the Power Block adjustable dumb bells over anything else). But the Bowflex is good for a warm up to the weights. Main negative I found is that the resistance changes with tempurature. The warmer it gets in your room, the less resistance the power bands have!
The other thing to consider about Bowflex and similar machines is HOW they work. If you want to spend a lot of time messing with changing settings you'll love the Bowflex. Also, more important is the resistence is variable as you do the exercies meaning it is easier/harder depending at what point in the various movements you're at. Not a good thing. Any exercise machine should provide smooth EQUAL resistance through the whole movement. Cable and weight stack based machines usually do.
No, because there are better alternatives that cost much less and do more and some even take up less room. Consider Powertec Shape System $500 that includes leg lift and fold away bench or their workbench leverage system for about $700. Both take Oylmpic plates and can have up to 500 pounds. Other good choice are BodySolid's various lines of home gyms. Depending model half the price of the Bowflex, built like a tank, LIFETIME no questions guarantee. With Bowlefex endless fiddling to change setup
@Shiffty05 Get one used on craigslist. You can take advantage of the fat people with no willpower. I got my ultimate 2 fully assembled and only used twice with the ab attachment for 66% off what it would cost off the TV + spending hours assembling the damn thing and no extreme shipping. It just took some dusting, tightening, and a little WD40 and it's as good as new. I've gained over 15 pounds of muscle in less than a year on the ultimate 2.
@OnBakePlatinum agreed, I got one on CL for $100 barely used. thank you complacent , lazy, unmotivated , buy everything you see on TV, and never use it America!! Bow flex rocks, because it uses the power of the bow!!!
@stevo642007 You should check out their dumbbells too. The combination of bows + real weights is much better than just bows by themselves. I don't even have a separate bench, I just use the bowflex machine as the bench.
Use common sense. Guys you see in commericals probably haven't used the Bowflex or whatever they're pushing...except for in the ad. They're fitness models with 10% or less BF that work out HARD in the gym. If Joe Average thinks he's going to look like that in 6weeks, I have a bridge in NY I can let you have...cheap. Anyone can improve their body, don't expect results others notice for at least six months of DEVOTED work. For a wow effect, you're talking 18 months to a couple years or more.
Right on here. I can say from owning a Bowflex that it is a great workout home gym...but it is a home gym and every serious body builder knows that equipment like the Bowflex can and never will live up to or mimic free weights. Yes, the guys on commercials are bodybuilders and probably have never heard of the Bowflex until they pretend to endorse it on the commercials. Plus every bodybuilder knows that it takes years of hard work to achieve great results regardless of what machine you use.
Combination of equipment is best method. I use free weights, an old Soloflex and a BodySolid home gym. Always mix up your routine to keep your body off balance. Use progressive training and once a month or so, go extreme to shock your muscles. Avoid steroids always, but try protein drinks made from Whey and use Creatine within reason for best results. Don't forget the cardio. I ride my bike 15-20 miles a day, if weather is bad, the old threadmill.
these ads always have a guy that is lean with good genetics, no muscle density or thickness. I could throw that guy under a light weight of 275 on a bench and it would squash him like a bug. It is another sales pitch for people who dont have time are injured or cannot push weights in a gym. people have no idea what it takes to have a body builder look and not one bowflrx ad has a body builder on it, they look like sprinters
You can look like a bodybuilder if you use a bowflex. All you need to do is take tons of growth hormones and steroids. It's the same with free weights.
well i had a bowflex so i do know what im talking about.....their infomercial is a lie. they say u cant lift as much on the bowflex as u would with regular weights, that's a lie u could actually lift more, im only at 50 lbs with a barbell curl, with bowflex i was doing 110...bowflex is too easy. weights r better.
Example #2 is untrue. Short intense exercise is 'not' the best way to exercise to burn fat and build muscle. Medium length exercise sessions with moderate weight resistance 'AND' 20 to 30 minutes of moderately intense cardiovascular exercise is the best way to burn fat and build muscle.
To bodybuilders or those knowledgable about bodybuilding in generall or more specifically bodybuilding plus nutrition, it's common knowledge that you 'must' involve cardiovascular exercise with resistance work.
for sure ripped and tone comes from doing the same exersise over and over going slow and using lighter weight, plus being at home I'll wip of two sets in a day just because its right there
you are dead wrong i have had my boxwflex since my birthday ( dec 4th ). im 6'2 and weighed 175 so i was a medium build, i now weigh 182 after only 25 days. thats not even 4 weeks and i did burn some fat so i gained about 10 lbs of muscle... so im not sure where you got your info from but maybe you should buy or at least try someones bowflex and try that 6 week challenge but double everything than you tell me if it builds any muscle or not

Hey, I would say you should workout on free weights as well as they build mass. I workout on my free weights first, then right after I hit my Bowflex. I like both , the bowflex is a nice smooth workout much easier on the joints I find. Been working out with free weights since I was 17 and I would never get rid of them. Both ways are good!
you didn't gain 8 pounds of muscle in 5 weeks, stop confusing gaining weight with gaining muscle. most people take a YEAR to put on 10-12 lbs of muscle and you're telling me you put on 8 lbs in a little over a month? LOL
If you have shitty genes it takes more then 2 years. But if you got good genes it takes a lot less then that. With good genes, good workout you can gain muscle quickly.
Personally I love it. I workout on it nearly 2 hours a day 5 days a week. I also use free weights as well. It's a much smoother and nicer workout on the muscles with the bowflex I find. Less stressful on my joints. I have the Bowflex Ultimate 2 with all attachments. Google that one and it will show you the exact machine. I'm very happy with it. Cheers
