this is possibly the result of people kicking the flush handle instead of using their hands to pull the flush handle. that is hot what the flush handle is supposed to be. no wonder there are more toilets that flush automatically.
we had one in a park bathroom...it was a nice thing too. the only way to stop it was the kill the water..SO they put a valve on it and the was the flush valve then..But people would leave it open and served no real purpose.so they took it out and caped the holes.,, what a shame.

i need this!!! i have a BEST friend that doesnt know when to flush after she takes a dump at my house! she decides that she should clog up the toilet by pooping and wiping and THEN flush!!! last time she ruined our downstairs bathroom and there was crap EVERYWHERE the toilet actually started flushing out crap back in!!! we had to hire a plumber to fix it!! now every time she comes she has to go outside!

Yeah. Normally this toilet would use 5 gallons per flush up to 1981, and then up to 3-1/2 gallons from 1982-96.
