  • Derp 1:10

  • An Al Jolson imitation is not racist. Sorry, you lose.

  • I would have watched this if there hadn't been such a long commercial

  • MAAAAAMMY

  • buy bonds--america needs chemtrails

  • yet blazing saddles is played at least once a month on cable

  • white guilt at its best, you fag

  • Character limits make it hard for me to fully explain in this comment why this is rightfully considered racist and why it's arguably not at the same time. If you want an idea I suggest doing some quick research by wikipedia-ing blackface (racist) and Al Jolson (not racist despite performing in blackface). It sounds contradictory but it maybe you'll see what I mean...but then again maybe you wont. I might be making this more confusing than it is but this is just the way I see it.

  • i cant tellit whats the racist part .

  • actually this was government work, so, it's in the public domain

  • dumb niggers strikes again

  • Ban this? I didnt recall them ever banning the Jazz Singer or Birth of a Nation

  • sonicwut origin 1:09

  • Bugs Bunny is playing Al Jolson

  • I don't quite understand? anybody what to explain?

  • If anyone who thinks that this bugs bunny cartoon Racist, grow up you fool.we are making over a cartoon in the first place.

  • Well...whats racist about this..I dont se- OH dear jesus

  • So if its rascist about anything not american its not banned but else it is?

  • When I think of war propaganda, I think of Bugs Bunny pretending to be Al Jolson.

  • let me guess.... Bob Clampett?

  • LOL I SEEN A SONIC VERSION OF 1:09 ON A PIC XD & that is racist :( im black

  • @Ikethehedghog We all knew you were black when you said "I SEEN".

  • watch 1:00

  • Why is this racist?

  • @TheChirpingAssholes bugs bunny put on blackface at 1:00, blackface was use in mistrel shows to mock black people. also see how they made his lips huge with blackface on.

  • did ya buy yours today?

  • lol i died when his face transformed

  • guess what...another comment fight

  • I vote for mphello.

Who gives a shit about everything else, the quality of your life is what truly matters, and you probably won't give about the world after you die since you'll be, well, dead, I dare you to think about how intensive animal farming is wrong after I knock you out with a punch in the face.

Really if you can't even think when knocked out, what makes you think you will be able to do it when dead?

  • Man there were some corny white dudes back then.

  • 1:09 dat derp face

  • Mammy

  • Al Jolsen was pretty damned offensive there is no way this would air now. However, during WW2 this would be seen as patriotic (that doesn't make it any less offensive).

  • Yes, I'll repeat what others have said many times before:

fight racism (and sexism, and true injustice) by not watering down the word.

Plenty of cartoons and the media depict vegans as "hippies" and "health nuts", even though I'm not a hippy nor a health nut: I'm vegan for animal rights.

No doubt a total lack of creativity by the writers.

But, I don't waste time on cartoons. I attack the actual real factory farms and fur farms where animals are PHYSICALLY tortured to death.

  • @mphello .. it's not because it hurts the ickle animals, but because it's hurting our planet .. forget about the cows being raised where there should be jungles, and concentrate on the missing bits of jungle .. intensive animal farming is doing our planet a lot of damage, it's highly inefficient, and it's going to end up wiping our species out .. and for that matter, so will soy bean farming, it'll be the end of us (i take back what i said about supporting your veganism)

  • @bakayurei

= it's not because it hurts the ickle animals, but because it's hurting our planet =

BULLSHIT! The PLANET is an INANIMATE OBJECT. It cannot be "hurt"! It will STILL exist for another 5 billion years! It is only FULLY SENTIENT beings that suffer pain, and hence, matter.

I take back giving a fuck about sustainability. You NEVER define what is optimal, in a logically consistent way.

So WHAT if a species dies out?! We will ALL die anyway.

  • @bakayurei

Since we all die anyway, the ONLY thing that matters is QUALITY OF LIFE - minimizing the pain for whomever suffers the most - and minimizing pain FAIRLY. Because that IS a hard, difficult problem.

It requires HARDCORE HEAVY DUTY MATHEMATICAL MODELING!

Not just easy brainless sound bites "nature in balance" blah blah.

    EVERYTHING else is bullshit.

  • The few people who are offended by this cartoon for being racist are NOTHING, NOTHING, NOTHING in sensitivity compared to all you asshole rightwing conservaturds who think you are the great "leaders" in the defense of free speech and telling others not to be overly sensitive.

Let's see you openly defend freedom of speech for animal rights, for prisoners, communists, and socialists like I do. You hypersensitive political correctness will shine through in an instant.

    I agree with Marcoman

  • @mphello I love animals, they're delicious. Meat is great. I'll never stop eating it. Neither will most of everyone else. Vegans are f***ing deranged and they look sick. I'm not surprised, they don't eat enough meat.

  • Why should the characterisation of one of the greatest showmen Al Jolson upset anyone.

I was born in an era where The Black & White Minstrel show here in the Uk was attracting audiences of in excess of 20million viewers.

Al jolson in his day was one of the worlds greatest performers admired by both coloured and white audience alike.

It is only because of the politically correct lobby that we now frown on such so called racist cartoons.

Get a life it history END OF SUBJECT

  • @StowAlex

Thanks for the back story man but Im not just black, Im also have Native American and like I said there is no complaining if you are stating facts, true every race has been wronged, anyway I only look toward the past to learn about my where i come from and so the past won't repeat it self which for some reason it still does, Im proud to be who i am and if ppl are talking about black ppl as a whole then its time to correct them, if you aren't black the don't talk about what we do!

  • Wow.... that was.... wow.......

My childhood impression of Bugs Bunny has been ruined.

  • Bugs Bunny won an Oscar.

If he was a closet Racist, Neo-Nazi, Imperialist and probably a member of the TEA PARTY why dont all you ' LIBERALS ' campaign to have him stripped of it !

  • Fuck all yall racist ass white people on this post commenting about what blacks do and don't do, sure you all can say this shit in the privacy of your little ass rooms but step to a real African American and say some of the things you have been saying, because i promise you, you won't say shit, black people don't complain dumb ass's we only state the injustice of things that went on and still go on to this day. I can see from most of these post that most of you still haven't changed, SMH bitch

  • @Marcoman816

~ I don't agree with all the comments ~ BUT

Blacks do cry about the past ALOT ~ EVERY race has been wronged in the past.

    I'm 1/2 Czech, polish & cherokee indian.

My countries & people were destroyed & they fled here because of the Nazis.

We all know what happened to the Cherokee Indians.

You can dwell in the past forever or FORGE AHEAD to make a better life for your children ~

I guess you'ld have to know how to be FATHRES first.

11 children with 9 baby mamas

  • I think this cartoon was banned because Porky Pig is naked from the waste down.

  • @pilotamurorei we don't force anyone to believe our religion but many do because of salvation, we are merely evangelists, the laws of Britain and America are already Christian based so we're not imposing anything, you think our way of life is a 'life choice' but it's far more than that, it's a life changer

  • Thought these were funny when I was young and loved them, not because they were racist but because they were funny. Ignorance turned it into something else to start problems and take them off the air! "OH MY KIDS" that's why everyones so gay now, (I mean gay as wimps not homo's). Even that word is f 'd up now! Stop cotling your kids so much!!!

  • MAMMY

  • I'm not sure if this counts as an official Warner Brothers cartoon more so than as a commercial with known icons shown prior to a film. It's a minute-and-a-half promotion for government war bonds produced in cooperation with the Treasury Department as indicated on the title card, so banned or not, its purpose is diminished.

  • "Buy your share of freedom"

  • @welcometoskyvalley Yup, they were selling war bonds to fuel our war efforts in WWII. Shit, this is an old cartoon, huh?

  • Man Elmer was friggin FAT

  • 1:09 TRUCKS

  • It's not the fact that he was imitating somebody. It's the fact that they cheapend the original person and not only that but cheapend the USA with the crappy WW2 planes in the background.

  • Wow I didn't see anything racist about this at all... horrible imitation but nothing racist... some people need to grow up and not throwing the race card on everything... I am Jewish and I don't do that... I think it is more of people looking to blame someone else for their short comings...

  • I remember my little sister had gotten to watch this cartoon in a DVD we bought !

We absolutely loved it, except we had no idea what they were talking about. xDD We just liked singing along.

That, and I remember that after they had finished singing, the cartoon then played the National anthem. I remembered when I was younger that I suggested that "they should totally play this in the beginning of school! 8D"

  • At 1:08, bugs bunny looks like derp sonic

  • singing? O.o

  • It's a shame this was taken down from Cartoon Network. It was a catchy number.

  • Yeah why little black kids finds this offensive. You jack asses Al Jolsen and blackface in general was racist as hell and only tolerated b/c it was a racist time. For historical reference there nothing wrong with it but when I was young 6 or 7 I used to hate seeing that blackface shit

  • @amensupremera

Al Jolsen a racist? you sir are a fucking idiot because Al Jolsen was as far from a racist as you could get, the dude brought black music and white audiance together infact because of him the early black jazz bands were able to get on stage for white theatre. Infact he once found a black couple that were kicked out of a restaurant and personally took them to dinner and threatened to punch anyone telling them no; fucking idiot niggers like you that dont know their facts

  • @shimorishiak He also bankrolled black boxer Henry Armstrong along with George Raft. But BlackFace is racist. Its demeaning and it was a sign of the racism of the times. It was insensitive and as child I remember being uncomfortable watching cartoons when BlackFace came into it. And the fact that you need to defend BlackFace by calling me an "ignorant nigger" sort of proves my point about how BlackFace reinforced the sterotype of the ignorant slow inferior black person

  • xD Heey looks its Efrum the Retarded Rabbit

  • Elmer is putting on some weight! he needs to buy himself a nutrition schedule

  • Nothing racist about an Al Jolson impersonation. Al was actually quite popular back then.....

  • Derp

  • This video should be banned for being government propaganda. We need to buy our freedom by buying government bonds???

  • @PissedFechtmeister This was made during World War II, when most of the country's production (including entertainment) was geared for the war effort.

  • you know what, fuck all the people that down bugs bunny, he was a great cartoon charactor who stared in awsum catoons and lets face it all the cartoons on now suck megga dildo bawlz!!!!!

  • if this video was banned because of racism then what the fuuuuuuuuck is it doing on here. guest that the freedom of speech thing again.

  • Well debatably racist but certainly political which is ugly in a cartoon.

  • Elmer Fudd's muh maaaaaaaaan.

  • I liked that really catchy toon

  • Not Racist because of when it was made and who it was imitating, the great Al Jolson

  • For the last time minstrels was an art form, it was slightly racist but nothing more than you get today, it didn't discriminate and the greatest minstrels like al Jolson were hardly racist

  • Bugs' face does turns black and his lips get big like a minstrel's. That's making fun of black people, who didn't have the resources to respond at the time with their own cartoon mocking white people. That's racist, to me.

  • people have been so brainwashed that they don`t know the difference. They`ve become stupid, thinking they`rejoining a cause by trying to kiss someones ass when all they`re doing is making fools of themselves. As for myself.......been there done that, and I matured and smartened up.

  • Lol uncle sam racist?

    What's that on his face?

    Oh, wait...

  • Lol uncle sam racist?

  • oooooh... it's cuz they put a pig representing a sailor. totally racist! sailors aren't pigs...

  • @ybidiotic You don't even know the meaning of Racist because racism is insulting other races because of their race but you just said things about sailors but sailors aren't a race the people who are the sailors are the race

  • Maybe if they ran more cartoons like this nowadays, people might have some spirt, and some humor in them.

  • yeah shit man, how devastating this was banned. bugs bunny would still be selling government bonds today if it weren't for his racist faux pas.

  • This is not banned, it's just not funny or topical.

  • @classicskid10 dude I know. They made black people look like clowns. Why would they do they that?

  • @Munn2 You don't understand the joke.

Okay, first of all look up "blackface" in Wikipedia.

Now look up "The Jazz Singer 1927".

The parody here is of Al Jolson singing "Mammy" in this film. Which he does in blackface, in part to hide the fact that the character in the film (basically life story of Eddie Cantor) is a jew, forbidden to sing popular music, who wants to go off and sing jazz, which at the time is seen as something only for blacks.

That's the story. Nobody will read this.

  • @motherthing thanks I now understand the joke a bit better. This is the first normal response I ever got on YOUTUBE lol. Usually my questions are unanswered, and are responded with several cameos of the N-word(and I'm not even black). People on here are usually annoying, so thank you

  • @motherthing I read it, thanks :)

  • @motherthing I don't think these cartoons were being racist or offensive on purpose. People have to remember what was popular in that era and sadly enough performing in blackface was one of those things. It was a part of the culture. Not saying it was right or wrong, it was what was popular back then. It is just like when shows such as: Saturday Night Live or In Living Color did parodies about what was going on during that era. I personally have mixed feelings about these images.

  • banned thats just STUPID!!

  • Who cares? Adults don't see it, kids do! And they won't understand at that age... Well some -.-

  • Noting is racist about this, it's kinda educational, and witty. Cartoon characters back in the day were far more intellectual and humanistic than majority of the ones today.

  • The part that you're claiming is racist is actually a parody of Al Jolson, who did most of his films and shows in blackface. I'm not saying it isn't racist. I'm just pointing out everyone's ignorance.

  • I liked the chubby Elmer Fudd it made him seem even funnier.

  • The reason it is difficult to see the racism portrayed is a result of how old the cartoon is. Look up the term "blackface" on google. As it is, few by modern standards would find this racist just because it is so tame compared to the things we know now. Back in the 50's, just the word "pregnancy" was considered impolite. This was before that.

  • whats the song at the beginning ?

  • Who gives a shit it's funny get over it btw nothing racist here just propaganda

  • If you don't think it is racist, you probably need to read up on the history of black face.

  • if anyone thinks this is racist he or she is a hopeless imbecile

  • I didnt is the racism

  • i saw the racism

  • Has anybody ever thought to ask the alleged "offended "people if they really are offended by what they see here? Get a good sampling from all walks of life. Then, let the majority opinion decide if it should be taken away. This is more of a pre emptive strike done just in case someone may feel offended. It's the same with with history books now. They are now politically correct.

  • i dont see the racist....

  • Black face lol, i can see why they say that is racist.

Slaves weren't allowed to act so they had whites imitate them in movies using black face. But seriously... its not like he did anything stereotypical from what i saw, but i guess simply doing the Black face is racist enough =.=

  • am i the only one who notices 1:09 ? its sonic! DERP!!

  • @AlphaWallBang nope i saw it too lol

  • @monkeyface : Obviously not - dumbasses try to write books too. Trick is to read enough good literature, so that you have the skills to decide which is a truly good or great book, or just a handful of pap. Problem with the internet is there isn't a decent librarian to weed out the crap and lies that end up on wiki@&%*# and other so-called historical and informational sites. Books are the greatest little universities the world has ever known. Learn or burn ace.

  • Okay, I've had it. There is nothing, underline NOTHING racist about this. Further, it was an ad - a Patriotic WWII bond selling campaign ad from during the war 1941-1945. Bugs in blackface (as Al Jolson) was just that - nothing more. Read some real history - from a book dumbasses, not off the polluted, re-written, incorrect, inaccurate, assanine internet. Fuck the illiterate, unlearned dumbasses who find insult in satire, comedy, and humor : may they rot in their own laugh-less hells. *&#@

  • @arhatyellow LOL... cause books are all perfectly accurate...

  • i guess this is a sign your too overly sensitive and you need to work that out

  • there ain't no racism in this. i don't even know what the heck you talkin bout

  • Big deal, Bugs Bunny does some black face which was the culture of Vaudville. Many black entertainers got their start in Vaudville. Stop sniffing for "racism."

  • lol wow this isnt racist its a WW2 cartoon advertising the purchase of war bonds

    again...wow

  • to the person who thought this was rasict spread butt cheacks incert head now have no come back and yap about my spelling and my reply will be take your phone or computer and give it a toss off a bridge and your self while your at it

  • And to think that, once upon a time, this was hot entertainment...it's amazing how things can change in 60-70 years.

  • @MaDrEaMeR17 I don't see what's not entertaining about this.

  • it's called blackface minstrelsy and yeah it's offensive. get an education.

  • Oh yah, this was were the Herp Derp Sonic came from...

  • They call that racist?

  • He was imitating Al Jolson - you need an education.

  • I don't understand!!!!!!

  • its racist bcuz of the blackface and mamy reference u ignorant individuals.

  • @nelsonaiwize

ohhh. now i see why. ty 4 pointing that out

  • Its not racist, its patriotic. It was the humor of the day. 20 years from now, Jim Carey will seem racist.

  • @Zolopher Yeah Fuck you.

  • its only racist if you think differently of people..?

  • This cartoon is not racist. Bugs Bunny was imitating Al Jolson. Anyone who feels otherwise needs to get a life and develop some thicker skin.

  • black face is sort of frowned upon

  • @elrond70 racism has very little to do with emotion would be the first thing I say to you as it is an ethical issue. The cartoon by itself isn't racist, but the black face imagery is the major turn off. It mocks black people by overemphasizing physical features. Al Jolson is just a man, but the black face imagery is frown upon because of how bad it made black people look. This is a senstive issue to black ppl and if your views are unchange you are honestly being insensitive to another culture.

  • @zeroun92 It was OUR culture, dummy. Not some African's culture, geesh. If you're black I know why you're complaining....it's what black people do.

  • @gvman3670 Ha, I see you are correct about that, it is our culture as Americans. As for the second part, sigh...nothing I can do for you. I'd recommend you seek out the King Jesus. He will give you a passion to help those complaining black people instead of ridiculing them.

  • @zeroun92

I recommend you never ever force people to believe your religion. It looks desperate and is the complete opposite of what a good Christian would do. Keep thy religion to thyself.

  • @pilotamurorei Sir, Jesus tells me to share my faith, and I was only offering a suggestion. the gentleman's salvation is up to him. If he is comfortable in his own skin, what can I do but say try him out, another thing He tells me to do.

  • haha cartoon bunnies cant be racist, just the people who draw them are, and besides it was the 40s a bunny performing a comedic act that derives from black stereotypes was fine back then, and porky represents a pig in uniform, not white people.

  • @zero2562130 Haha, Im certain i have way more brains than you, as a matter of fact my dick has more brains than you do. Nice come back by the way. "go play in traffic you brainless faggot". You must be insecure about your sexuality. You know you like smoking meat cigars, but its ok little buddy. Maybe you can find another racist bitch like yourself to take you to pound town. I absolutely cannot wait to see what you reply with next. I need another good laugh lol. Have a lovely day mr superior.

  • This cartoon was never banned. It was broadcasted quite heavily !!

  • Its racist because a white guy is being portrayed by a pig

  • This was actually a WWII movie cartoon encouraging people to buy war bonds. In fact, My Great grandfather was a WWII veteran, and he has a whole bunch of EXTREMELY RARE cartoons, like Private SNAFU, a cartoon which was never shown to civilians. Each one contains material that was meant to prepare our men for not making mistakes. SPY'S is the only one that is now allowed to be watched by the public. The animated shorts are narrated by the young Doctor Suess.

  • People dont even know what racism is. If you think about if you THINK this is racist it means YOUR racist. Unless something is obviously racist. Your racist for scanning it and find ur version of "racism" in it. But this is retarded how bad they are trying to get you to buy war bonds.

  • MAMMY!!!!

  • What is racist about Bugs Bunny impersonating Al Jolson?

  • Shoot, it was to huck Uncle Scam's Bond's. He was doing a a Al Jolson schstick, in black face.

  • Yeah, definitely. Black people are SO racist.

  • If that was banned, then Foghorn should have been banned for half the things that came out of that roosters yap.

  • I saw Bugs in black face but white people were portrayed by pigs so...

  • while this is perdy racist...have to say at least cartoons were politically active back then even if u don't agree with the message of a particular cartoon...now they are just stupid animals chasing each other without violence and have no value at all at times.

  • No racism there the Black Face was a form of performing art...the blacks want it to racist...to keep their cause going. What a shame

  • A rabbit playing black man playing a white man in black face and people don't find this funny? Your over sensitivity is clouding a possible sense of judgment.

  • So you want to be an exhibitionist racist? Maybe make a little money, too? Here's what you do: Get talent at being funny and likeable -> Become a comedian. It took us 50-something years to finally pin Michael Richards on his BS. Oop, I'm sorry. That's one of you guys' heroes, isn't he?

But TBF the human mind is a flawed thing and -isms are nearly inevitable. But it leads to less regret if we actually try to be as smart as we claim we are and try to overcome such instincts.

  • What a load. People who whine about having to be politically correct don't know what they're talking about. Usually these people are hypocrites too, Example: Bill O'Reilly - "Blablabla lefty liberal pinheads, blablablabla political correctness is for nazis" ONE MINUTE LATER this same person wants us to ban Muslims because some Muslims have been video'd saying mean things about the USA!

I don't feel sorry for any dummy complaining that they can't be racist in public; why else have 4chan?

  • @TaTiska

4chan is so much more than petty racism.

  • racist bugs bunny haha :D americans...hahahaha

  • This isn't banned you fools -- it's OUT OF PRINT -- there's a difference.

  • @vikingjim666 - No, it's banned, alright. Cartoonnetwork and most other networks, except maybe public access networks, will probably never play this.

  • @vikingjim666 What a maroon! What an ignoranimous!

  • @vikingjim666 what's the difference?

  • People any more r fuckin stupid

  • Who care screw fuckin black pplbor who ever hates bugs bunny they all were great n classics I grew up watchin them all
