it looks like you are just letting the car slow down... like putting the clutch in at 55 mph on the highway then "pulsing" it to speed up a little bit again. How can this technique work after several years of wear and tear on the car?
Not a concern at all. The pulses are all in low RPM and the glides happen engine in powered off state -something that hybrids do naturally anyway. Under this routine, the engine undergoes less stress in a lifetime than a regular car in a few years in the hands of average people.
By the way 109mpg makes a moped 120mpg seem sucky. Mopeds should be getting way more than that for what they are if they're only slightly more efficient than this four seater car.
The problem with P&G is that you can't do it at higher speeds. If you are going to be going slower speeds, that P&G is great and you can get upwards of 110mpg. But, if you are going to be driving more than 45-50mph (not sure what that is in Km/H) then you can't really get P&G to work as well, and your MPG is more like 40-50mpg. Still, if you are going to take 5 people and a trunk-full of stuff, I would take 50mph over the 1-passenger moped.
How can it be no fuel consumed if the engine is at 1000 during the glide? I assume you're out of gear during the glide to make the car slow down less quickly, but is there no engine shutoff?
Thank you for the explanation, I was wondering why my 2007 HCH rev counter remained at 1000 rpm whilst under battery powered propulsion, I didn't understand how that worked, until now :)
What's the average mpg you get from doing all your techniques? I'm planning to buy a Civic Hybrid right around when summer starts. It looks like fun though, driving with all these techs. Great vids!
Don't you have to move the gear to Neutral to glide? Or do you just let go of the gas pedal and let a hill's slope keep the car going (since you're being pushed down by the downward slope)?
No need to put the car in neutral. Just lift the gas foot enough to cancel the throttle, then press enough to cancel the regeneration and then you can glide with fuel consumption and engine friction at zero.
I VE A QUESTION FOR YOU, i just bought HCH06 in Greece. is it possible to drive only with the battery? today i noticed that the gas consumption bar was at its lowest point, but the assistance bar was in the middle and the car was moving, while i had my feet on the pedal. is it possible to run the car only with the battery ?
When there's one of more bars of IMA assist and the fuel consumption gauge is at zero with the car is moving, then you are driving on electric only. :)
Sure, but the gas engine will be idling while in a neutral glide. The other option may be to actually turn off the engine while in the neutral glide, but that may not be safe or legal for many folks.
From the law I've seen (RI general law 33-22-6)its coasting in Neutral not allowed on a down grade only. I have turned the engined off while coasting and have been able to go a distance of 1 mile (6/10th mainly flat with some short mild crests and the last 4/10 a steep down grade).
nice, what kind of mileage do you get from using this technique?

great stuff!
When I am gliding my HCH 2008 real time MPG gos the other way to the max mpg instead of to 0 like your video.

I have a 2009 HCH and mine goes in the direction you described as well. I'm little confused why his moves to the left.

HCH-II has throttle controlled cylinder deactivation. In a glide or under electric only propulsion the RPM is always at 1000.

in km/h right?

Unless his car has an insanely high gear, then likely

Yes, the beauty of a CVT tuned for maximum fuel efficiency.

During the summer? Varies from 3.2 to 3.9 L/100km (60 to 75 MPG US), can be more if you use more techniques.
