The Silhouette SD is connected to your computer. Once you have printed your image (which will have the registration marks on the page with it), you then put the vinyl in the SD and it uses the registration marks to orient itself as to where the image to cut is located on the page, then it does the cutting. Note: The Silhouette SD has been replaced by the Silhouette Cameo which is capable of cutting larger images than the SD could.
