You should talk or something... Instead of dragging your feet around the shop during the video... Maybe some music, Idk but this is the morpst boring way to show us such an exciting an fun project
I've bought the Ariel Atom 3d model from 3DExport dot c o m and viewing it under 3ds Max 2010 . The artist is 'SQUIR'. I'm printing out a full scale plastic model using a 3d printer to get a real view of it's actual physical dimensions. What I have observed so far is that the main long curved tubes are actually 4 inches in diameter. It looks like the one on the video is just 2". There could be strength issue with such a smaller tube width than the original.
I have a question I think someone with your knowlege could answer. I have an electronic oil temp gauge, and I would like to know if it would give me a reading if I installed it in place of my non-working water temp gauge. As long as the sender fit, I should assume the only difference between oil and water is the viscosity of the liquid.
copy what works, the Ariel Atom is one bad ass car,but remember, the Ariel Atom chassi is built on a 20,000 dollar Bluco table,it is almost perfect right off the table.
Looking at build vids is awesome but I would like to see something about designing the parts. What loads to use in calculations, ackermann angles and so on. Can you show us something about that or recommend books, websites?
How did you figure out what length upper and lower a-arm to use so it would work with the axles and still keep vertical wheel travel while still gaining camber as it moves through its travel?
that outside tube looks like the ariel atom I think i see a problem with that top strut looks like it hits the frame ? god forbid you go over a bump or maybe im just seeing things
really good work! for those who don't know, the rear suspension is a push-rod, not so rare in supercars and some sportscar...anyway build a push-rod at home require a lot of ability!
Isnt the engine in there backward? The engine came from a fwd car which the exhaust manifold is typically on the front side of the engine... Atleast I think so.. I suppose I could be wrong..
Mate, there is a book called "Kit Cars and the Law", and it tells you all the spec. you need to build your car to, for it to be road legal. You then have to take it to a test center where they go over the whole vehicle checking that your car complies with every point then if it does you get a certificate and you can then get an MOT and take it out on the road. I have been looking into this for sometime now as its something i definitely want to do in the future.
Nice workshop, just a bit bigger than the one I used to have, god I miss it,my poor tools are all crying out to be used, thousands of pounds worth of snaop-on,Mac tools gear, plus Mig and compressor all lying dormant, plus I now suffer from multiple chronic illness,so I'm laid up too, until when,I dont know, what a bummer.
Good job keep up the good work. That rear rocker seem pretty close to the chassis. Hope there isnt a lot of compliance with that single shear rear rocker.
Nice, but you sound like a maine ah.

I like your large radius bends for the top rails. Wish i was able to bend those...
ajohnson 3 years ago 2
WE designed and built our own 'bender' using an
old machine vice with 3 pulleys attached.
The center pulley has a hand crank to wind the tubing thru
midastube 3 years ago
@midastube Let me see? You placed the pulleys and pipeing in the vice, pipeing in the center with 2 pulleys on 1 side and 1 pulley on the other?

Yes it will be street legal

Is this for recreational off road use, or will it be registered as a street legal vehicle?
I always wanted to do something like this, unfortunately lack of equipment and space has prevented me.
