  • FANTASTISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GREEENNNDDAAAYYYYY

  • whenever i feel like shit i think of this song

  • aff, que horror, ele faiz cara de lokoo*-*

  • @TheMeltdown09

But they took the song name from a brand called Armitage shanks XD

  • What a fucking great video!

  • Wow... They get their information straight from the CD, and in the beginning they still spelled Armatage wrong. It isn't Armitage...

  • This is awesome. Thanks for this. Never saw it before, and Insomniac is my favorite GD album. Means a lot.

  • SHI-Weh-weh WOOOO-WO!! :P love that part

  • @Person12084 I think it's just you.........

  • press 3 to look at tre dance :D

  • Fuck, es triste que ya no nominen a green day, y prefieren darle premios a justin bieber, que regrese el antiguo MTV :/

  • Its cool to hate MTV now? how times change. Just a few years ago it was cool to love it.

Luckily, I've never taken my time to watch it.

  • mtv's got shit since this

  • 3 people like lady gaga

  • I like the pic at the end

  • Sandler?*

  • is it just me or doesnt Billie Joe look like Adam Sandler ( dookie era mostly)

  • tre at 1:55 haha

  • Tre looks like someone who'd never get laid in this performance

  • they performed this in 94? the year of dookie? is that correct?

  • @radtimmie yes.. they played this because bille just written it and he just wanted to test it out..... they were playing who wrote holden cauldfield in 1990 before kurplunk came out in 1992, lots of bands do it all the time

  • this is how my band will play.

  • Insomniac was the most Punk album they done.

Not Dookie, that album was kinda Pop-Punk commercial.. not saying that's bad. But Insomniac had non commercial tracks.

  • 1:35, lmao

  • kickass *-*

  • 2:25 :D

  • you gotta love the Green Day for their willingness to be unique

  • is tre cool wearing a braid in his hair? ( 1:05 )

  • Music is so good.

I love how they play..loud, fast and snotty faced Punks! =P

  • @theshadowofafigure this was 1994 they wrote armatage shanks around the time of dookie and this was soon after the basketcase video

  • best thing that has ever been on the tele

  • kick ass poformence

  • very good performance!

  • Ahhh. Back when MTV had good music.

  • i love this song!! =)

but what is the song at the beginning bit limp bizkit please?

  • Love Green Day. Love Insomniac. Love this performance. Hate Mtv.

  • They spelled ''Armatage'' wrong. And that couldn't have been in 1994, Insomniac wasn't out yet until 1995!

  • @theshadowofafigure you can play songs off an album that hasnt come out yet. its not like they wrote every song right before the album came out. Wake Me Up When September Ends was suppose to go on Shenanigans but Billie Joe wasnt ready

  • @pieman1019 What are you talking about? My comment had nothing to do about learning songs from this album.....

  • haha guy jumped on stage 2:08

that wouldn't be allowed happen at the VMA's anymore.

  • Im not sure if that was in 95...

  • lol they spelt "armatage" wrong..XD

  • probably one of their best individual performances imo

  • 1:26 - 1:32

    xD

  • billie joe's so tinyy!! ^-^

  • SWEET NOSTALGIA!

    I adore 90's Green Day.

Sorry, but they lost me after American Idiot. The eyeliner and Bush hating was too much for me.

  • @Rev7xavenged7xSyn I see where the eyeliner could be a problem but I'm pretty sure they hated Bush before that album.

  • No doubt one of their best performances ever. Really.

  • I really miss old Green Day

  • billy seems rarely use 1st 2nd and 3rd strings

  • @icelemoncoffee E A D G.... :D strings what he normally uses... try to learn real string names...

  • @pasim123 they are real string names, if it was tuned to d the strings wouldn't be eadgbe would they? the 6'th string is the top string (the thickest) and the 1'st is the bottom string (the thinnest)

  • @fuckamericanidiot well i know but he uses normally standard tuning or half step down so well it is E A D G B(H) E or Eb Ab Db Gb Bb eb

  • @pasim123 yup, E A D G B E , 1st as high E, B as second ...

  • @icelemoncoffee He's a pretty shitty guitarist. He just plays standard issue power chords, he doesnt really know how to do too much or even want to do much, so he doesnt even need all 6 strings. You can play every greenday song on just 3 strings. They are about as simple as a rock band can possible get.

  • @trenken hes actually a really good guitarist,

but when you have to sing and play guitar at the same time, its a bit of a challenge.

  • @trenken i understand what you mean mate but thats punk im afraid mostly power chords but if you look as some of there really old stuff billie actually breaks out into an amazing solo most of the time so tbh no hes not shit

  • @trenken

Technically you would need 4 strings.

  • great bass!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • punk rock at its best

  • remember when mtv played good music insyead of jersey shore and justin bieber

  • 1:35 LOL.

  • Love Billie <3

  • Mike looks totally sexy in this video. ;) And I'm not usually into him

  • where are they playing??

  • cuuute <3 i love all albums green day made, especially the old ones! epic!

  • I still feel like this song... -_-

  • i wish i lived in the 90s just to relive all of green day

  • @UndeadRuins I Grew up in the 80's and the 90's was later on - There weren't that many killer bands out there PUNK Was almost dead - there was alot of heavy Metal, Green Day were A FLUKE - there were Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Etc. But all those bands weren't all that. The Real Bands I wanted to see were "Bad Brains, Black Flag, Crass, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Misfits, Sex Pistols, Ramones, Damned, ETC." I seen Ramones, Pistols,Misfits,Damned I miss D 80s

  • @RushNLV all those bands you listed were the reason i wanna live in 80s 90s..thats when punk started..and punk was never dead or almost dead thats just what people said cause gay ass grunge came along...havent you heard the song punks not dead by the sex pistols man? lol well anyways ya

  • @RushNLV what do you mean by "Green Day were a FLUKE" ?

  • Adorei o cara subindo no palco e pulando na platéia, ri mto xD

  • Stranded... Lost inside myself

My own worst friend my own closest enemy!

  • i miss the 90's mtv..

  • 1:54 TRE THE DRUMMING CHICKEN!

  • 0:19 they spelled amatage wrong :P

  • @GreenDayRocks6666 i thought that at first spelt armatage on the album but its named after british toilet company, and being british, i piss all over armItage all the time haha it is kinda right n wrong

  • @MattCoop13 oh well i didnt know lol im an american who is used to amrAtage shanks, but whatever... :)

  • Old green day!

  • it was 1995 not 1994

  • @Rabioful

    actually it was 1996

  • @Rabioful in 1995 he performed with blond hair

  • this is when MTV didn't suck as much as it does nowadays!

  • @vanhalen8200 yea back wen mtv had MUSIC

  • Believe it or not, this is before they released Insomniac. Kinda a treat for the fans if you wanna call it that.

  • See all the guys in the crowd with long hair? Yup definitely the 90s. lol

  • awesome form to play guitar

  • thank god for that... Why is everyone mis - spelling Armitage? I live near the place! Pretty weird they named a song after a small sink and toilet company where i live!! Cooool!!! :)

  • @DookieDan91 yeah they named it after the place but even they spell it armatage shanks not armitage

  • this is in 95

  • this is 1994

  • This is LIVE: bands play songs that haven't been released yet live then record them later, this is a common practice in the music world. I am guilty of it too he he he. yep this is 1994

  • @RushNLV was just about to write that man xd

  • the pictures before and after were REALLY useless.. seriously, you don't need such things if you got green day performing!! the performance was AMAZING

  • awesome live preformence, at this time it seemed like they were on a mission, haha and tre looks like a chicken junkie

also NICE way 2 finish the video 2:25

  • any1 else think that mike looks like bon jovi here?? hahaha

  • i remember when award shows played music...

now its all fucking back track shit.

  • Perfect performance.

  • This is the performance that exposed to, and got me hooked on Green Day! The music kicked my ass and the singer's twitchy face frightened me, but I loved it. They still remain one my favourite bands.

  • first Off, He Said Cloustrophic Mind. Not Catastrophic. They Spelled It "Armitage" Not "Armatage". Well Done Though :D

  • The organisators said they have to play Basket Case...

So they play this "unknown" Song;)

  • Those who say Green Day is just as good nowadays have no idea what they're talking about. They were never around a whole ten years to experience the Green Day of the 90s.

  • holy crap blue looks huge here

  • I love that performance EXCEPT stupid ass Ralph Cerella from the Howard Stern Show stage diving at the end. He's such a HOMO that it almost ruined that classic performance. Other than that Green Day came hard after a summer of shows laced with crystal meth and that legendary Woodstock mud fight.

  • but this song is from insomniac!

  • the date is right

they were ordered to play basket case, so they got pissed and played this song instead. Insomniac was released in 1995, so what? They first played geek stink breath in SNL 1994.

Also, you can tell this song wasn't still finished: BJ changes the lyrics and the drums are different here than in the original version

  • @DiegusMaximusMS esta version es buena!

  • they rock

  • What the hell is with the random naked chick at the end?!

  • Something is Wrong...Insomniac Was release in 1995 :S

  • This performance still blows my fucking mind. I remember seeing them in '94 on MTV all the time Basket Case was always on, I was like "yeah they're alrite, I couldget into these guys", then I saw this on the MTV awards and I was like "holy shit, what the fuck was that ". Amen

  • i was taking a leak the other day and then i looked down at the manufacturer of the urinal,it was armatage shaks, thats where they got the idea for the song but these special urinals are only in ireland and the U.K.

P.S. ireland is not part of the uk

  • Damn they were so good in the 90's

Then the 2000's came and....well....I don't wanna talk about that

  • i love green day, ai is my favorite album, and i saw them live 6 months ago and they rocked, but i do the i-dont-give-a-fuck-attitude-bille and the stage diving and whatnot.

  • God damn I miss those days

  • BJ was tweakin out haha. but insomniac's the shit, GREEN DAY ROCKS!

  • Comment removed

  • My favourite ever green day song !!

  • they played so hard

  • Fave GDPerformance ever! I bought all of their albums the day after I watched this concert. I didn't know the song wasn't on any of them (until later on Insomniac). This live version, however, made me become an instant fan and their music was the soundtrack to my best high schools memories and may since. They came to Halifax and played on Halloween the next year. I went with many of my best friends and crowd surfed up front to the opening song, which was this one. Great times!

  • he messed up the lyrics at 0.56 its supposed to be:

    no meaning...no healing

self loathing freak and introverted deviot

  • well this was before the song was finalized so they changed some lyrics between this performance and in the insomniac album

  • @Th3GrammarPolice Yah, like dfsxgh said, they changed some lyrics before they recorded it for Insomniac.

  • I bet the people watching had no clue what they were playing!

  • @greendaythebeatles yh but back then everyone was so on drugs that they love it anyway lol

  • that's like my anthem, if someone were to ask me which song decribed me the most in a nutshell, i'd say this song hit the nail on the head.

not to mention it's a great song to sing out loud.

  • it's not the best song from green day but that stay all the same a super energy !

  • Mike's face at 0:32 ....cute! :p

  • is Tre not the greatest drummer in the world. Never seen anyone play the way he plays lol.

  • That's a signature tone of voice by Billie at 0:22 and throughout the song. He has similar tones in 'Going to Pasalacqua'.

How do you get pants like Billie's?! Johnny Rotten wore them in Anarchy in the UK.. God I'm desperate for pants like those.. yes, those that don't reach the socks like Billie's.

Sadly.. he wears some slim pants nowadays. Anyways..

  • @EuGJaMMeR yeah! going to pasalacqua has the same chords than this song. 2 great songs btw

  • @EuGJaMMeR

I´d say just get a pair that fits and cut it off at the bottom

  • They recently played 'Know Your Enemy' at the same show as this video too.

    I'd prefer Armatage Shanks.. -.-

  • this is an early video of green day, you can tell, look at billie joe...he's so different now...i loved them then and i love them now <3

  • they played who wrote holden caulfield in 1990

so that CAN be in 1994

  • No. Armatage Shanks was written in 1994, prior to the release of Insomniac. They were supposed to play Basket Case but they decided to play this one as a preview for their new album.

  • i know this is true, but i just wonder how they knew i was on the "unknown album" Insomniac at 0:19

  • Imagine Green Day in this video, all of them wearing exactly the same clothes - but singing a song like 'American Idiot'. Sometimes I think.. Green Day was totally erased when they started the whole rock-opera act.

3 chord songs, Billie singing to the tune, insane drums.. This was Green Day!

  • Ehh I kind of agree.

But, I guarentee if they would've released Dookie and it had rock-opera stuff on it, people would still like them.

  • Well it can't be stuff. It's about having all the songs in one album connected to each other and having a theme.

I guess so but, no matter how many people say they got really sucessful with their newer albums, I really would have prefered them to be as simple as they were.

  • Nesse video aí, o publico, aposto que o mais novo hoje em dia tem 30 anos de idade.

    Isso sim era green day!

  • now this is green day at its best man! check out tales of george on here guys you will not be disspointed!

  • the 90's ruled!!

  • LOL the stage diver at the end is such classic 90's.

  • that crowd sounds amazing is that even from the same show? it sounds like the fucking beatles at shea stadium crowd!

  • it was the same show...but it was back then when people appreciated music and not just the ,,cool'' entertainemnt shows these days....

  • Stranded lost inside myself

  • i was just born then but i still remember when insh came out i remember baskit case for sure

  • basket case came out before this

  • man, those were the days... i was in 1st grade but i still remember my dad playing insomniac and dookie in the car all the time...

  • greendayfan21100 you have no idea. your gonna hate this tour dick.

  • I know that this song was wrote during Dookie but they released on Insomniac in 95 and this was in 94. Can some one explain this to me?

  • I cant.

there is a videos's name when i had download, about 8 years ago.

    MTV VMA '94.

  • So what you are practly saying that rename it or something?

  • No I just saying that when I downloaded, its already had this name,

    MTV VMA 94',

If this year, 94 is wrong, please notify me to change.

  • Oh okay. Then I thing it is 95.

  • no it's probably right, i read about green day playing on mtv after the release of dookie and mtv told them to play one of the hits from dookie but green day was like "fuck! fuck mtv, we play whatever the fuck we want" so they pulled of a new song, armatage shanks ; )

  • @millieguitarcrasher Oh okay that is true....Thanks.

  • @rebeloaraujo It is the correct year, Green Day decided to play this song at the last minute instead of Basket Case :) Great vid thanks for uploading.

  • @rebeloaraujo just because they didnt release it doesnt mean they couldnt play it live

  • @rebeloaraujo it's 96

  • @rebeloaraujo yo you can play a song before its released, theyre probably spreading awareness of insomniac, and thats definately 1994

  • @Milescook7655 they played this song before the cd came out.

  • @Milescook7655 they were going to play basket case but they thort it was a good idea to do a new song that know one knew so the played this.

  • @20ten1 Oh okay thanks.

  • @Milescook7655 I heard..... that they were sheduled to play Basket case, but instead they thought they would play another track just to mix things up - a track that wasnt even released yet! Apperently people referred to it as ''lost inside myself'' before the CD came out. Pretty punk do go and do something like that on a live award show.

  • @Milescook7655 ey man, im spanish so sorry jaja, the mtv want that they play basket case, but they didnt want to play always basket case, so they played armatage shanks that wasnt finish in the 94 LOL

  • @Milescook7655

They played it before within the weeks before Insomniac came out buy had already announced it or something like that. I cannot remember the exact story but it's something like that
