It's not all about the tricks, that's not dancing, it's about the heart and soul of Egyptian Dance and music. Sorry but I have to disagree very strongly with you, no one can show that many years of dance instinct and pure class after 3 months - moves are just that if they have no soul or even true understanding of the dance and culture.

what truely lies beneath her uncomparable talent in raqs sharqi is her musical ear....since I was kid & seeing her concernts & would notice how even as a dancer she would direct the orchistra behind her....that as well as her strong & unaplogitic personality as well as taken her art very seriously.....do you guys even realize she was an illiterate but managed to get her self where she is with whatever means possible

@TheChrolli actually...bellydancers real one "raqs sharqi" are supposed to have a rounder bodies that can move...that's the trick...also she's much older now & not as slender as she used to be....so give her a break...she's the most well known bint balad

An article on findings for Egypt culture said they found the earliest depictions of dancers seeming to be belly dancing or close to it,but are not sure if the Egyptians invented it as a celebration or worship dance because Egypt like most countries ,was trading ideas,myths,supplies etc. between other countries in middle east and Asia( in a whole), and such, meaning possibilities of dance inter-trade, yea exactly it was popular in this whole region, so it is uncertain it could be from anywhere

@bhayes06 she always wore these types of costume in the past, i guess she loves them and she wears them very well, i don't think she is feminist , i personally like these better than wearing a bra and belt ,sometimes it tends to look sluttier no matter how you look at it, but other people prefer bra and belt...i think Egypt toned down on that rule for a while now, cus i see alot of foreign dancers like from Brazil and Russia performing in Cairo wearing bra and belt...I'm not really sure

@bhayes06 its also mainly because fifi comes from the country...hence many egyp refering to her "bint balad" & country girls dance around their families, neighbors at weddings & festivals but of course wont dress like they'r at a "cabaret" besides....the dancing is more sensual with one covering as to leave something to imagination :)

Yes but the Difference is Fifi has changed her style of Dance dress to suit her age, gone are the Bright low cut coloured dresses of her youth, Now we Have a more Sophisticated FiFi so she still looks Fantastic!!.

I think she look great on there. This is more recent show maybe, she does slim down a lot.

Also, now 21st century, a lot of time we will see spinning in bellydance because dance also needs evolution. If spinning and turning are great techniques from ballet, why not put in bellydance and makes it more dynamic and energetic. I even have seen flamanco skills in bellydance in some video, i think that's great if different dance skills can put in bellydance and make it even better, why not?!

Wrong, there were signs of this dancing in Nubia with the Goddess Hathor. It is an African dance way before the Arabs.

That is wrong. I own a copy of the first "bellydancer" artefact in history, it s Egyptian, 4000yrs old. The dancer wears a revealing dress with coins, most probably a priestess in ritual, or a goddess depicted. Have a look at century old Arabic poetry, when they describe the ghawazee dancers, very revealing costumes apparently.

Fifi is a strong woman with an empowering personality. But she has a big heart. Not only does she feed hundreds of families during Ramadan, she also helps out people from the old neighborhood where she grew up by allowing them to play in her band. Even if they just stand there without doing much. she creates job opportunities for many, that is why her band is always huge. She's a generous woman, never forgets where she came from.
