I think they captured the essence of this contest. The point is absolutely to arrange the tune in an exciting and interesting way that reflects the original intent of the composer. In that respect, they nailed it as all of the groups that won a spot did. All of the "iffy" parts of their performance was fixed in the studio.

the most important thing about this song (and indeed all of Ben Fold's songs) is the feeling, I love the guy and his music and humor and style but he doesn't have the greatest voice in the world.

I feel like the soloist doesn't finish the phrases and drops off the end of words. I know part of it is the style of the song but I don't like how he did it, personally.

Otherwise, it's a very complicated and difficult song to do a capella and I think they did a good job.

I was really really impressed with the soloist up until the last "town." if he could keep that from going flat, it would be perfect. i absolutely love his voice, aside from that.
