So this is all good and fine for northern pronunciation. Do you know much about how the southern dialects operate. Are they deretroflexed or is the retroflex an innovation of the northern dialect.

my text book always tole me to say j ch x and then make your tongue go further back to do the zh ch sh. if English is your first language i don't know how people can have issues with it. But then again there are different types of English. maybe cause i am western Canadian and our English is a bit more like your jaw is shut so maybe that helped..
