I liked your video very much. Let me say I east Sabudana Khichadi every Saturday. I am not best at cooking and especially remembering all the sequence so I watch it every time before making and yes one more thing I found your tips far helpful than the one by Sanjeev Kapoor. Keep it up. One more thing, my mom mixes curd in it so whenever i tried it, it became sticky, i m not sure if u have any tip for that.
Thank you for watching & your nice comments! One more tip- you can cook soaked sabudana (+ salt+crushed peanut powder) for 2 min in microwave, mixing well after 1 min and keep again for 1 min. and then transfer to pan to add jeera , green chillies, coconut etc as shown.I tried this recently and it made the job v easy - it was non-sticky nicely cooked khichadi. Reg curd,i never tried but MOMs are expert chefs and we can never beat their recipes ;) you can replace it with lemon juice..Good luck !
good recipe-it came out good. as for your pressure cooker, i had same stains too but i used barkeepers friend (from bed bath beyond) and now the cooker looks cleaner. also your stove knobs. thanks again for recipe
This is fantastic. Just loved it.I have made sabu dana khichadi for the first time after watching this video and it came out really well. Thanks a ton for the wonderful recipe.
I really needed that as I do fasting around 3 to 4 times a year and did not know every time what was going wrong with my Khichadi :P. I am going to try it tomorrow for Datta Jayanti
You will also get some Punya from my fast tomorrow :D
For the peanuts in the oven, what temp and how long do you go with that ? And , do you start with the raw peanuts and do u add any kind of oil or fat to tthem, im looking for options so i can make the peanuts with the least amount of fat as possible.
Thanks for watching the video. I start with raw peanuts & dont use any oil / fat. I usually preheat ovn to 400F & then keep raw peanuts for about 15 20 minutes. color of peanuts will change to dark & you'll b able to easily peel them off.... If not keep it for additional 5 minutes. Make sure peanuts dont burn after they cool a little take them in a clean cloth & hold the knot & bang them on the floor (holding the knot).
This makes peeling v easy. Then you can separate peanuts from the cover & crush them in a blender or food processor. Try with small quantity first. Let me know if you have any questions. Good luck
It worked like a charm. I washed the sago 2-3 times. And then drained the water, and kept it in the oven overnight. Next day it was all good to go. I cooked it and turned out to be great. Although I had a hard time removing the skin of the peanuts after roasting them, but got through finally. Thank you so much for your reply. I really appreciate it.
Hello, yes I did boil the potato but it's okay to use unboiled potato but you need to steam them in the pan and cover with a lid after adding ghee or microwave potato for boling.
All aluminum pota look like that after some time of use. She is using the bottom part of pressure cooker pan. It does not mean to toss it only because it has some flame stains. SImply boil water with half cut lemon and interior will be glittering again. For external surface use baking powder. Best indian restaurants use same kind of pans (large) and we pay extra dollars to relish that. Let us appreciate a young girl making traditional Indian recipe...with finer details...!
Thanks a lot for sharing your recipe. I always used to use oil instead of ghee and cover it while cooking but the result was never like this one. I tried your way and it turned out great :)
You can always make with minimum amount of peanut oil. Cover it initially but do not add Peanut powder until you have finished covering initially for 90 seconds only. When the khichdi looks sticky , now sprinkle peanut pwder.Mix well.Cover it again for 30 seconds.Use aluminium pots or heavy bottom non-stcik pans.Soaking for 4-5 hours preferred. Garnish with crushed potato chips and chopped cilantro if you want (and some lime juice).....
Thank you so much
