Also, even if this use of seals is driven by business, I fail to see what's wrong with local people using their local resources to make a living. As long as the hunt is well managed and sustainable, which it most certainly is, and the cull is done respectfully (quick kills etc), then I say it's being done as well as any use of animal resources in the world.

Boycott the seal hunt and the seals will still die from slow starvation, as they are already overpopulated. With polar bear numbers down there's nothing to keep the seal population in check, and the fish stocks off Canada's east coast are already low. You know nothing about the ecology of east coast Canada. You are not scientists; you're putting both seals and the people who depend on them at risk. Humans are part of this ecology too. Seal hunting is a right and a necessity.

Newfoundland sealers, once you get to know them, are not killing these animals today to feed their families. First of all don't put words in my mouth.I stand against forms of all animal cruelty,at the moment the seal hunt is a hot topic and that is because of the total disregard of ethics these hunters use when killing the seals.If you had done some research you would realize that these seals ARE facing extinction because they not only have to battle climate change, but they have to battle the fact that over 275 000 of them will be brutally killed this year.

The Harp seals merely bear their pups in Canada, they migrate all along the Atlantic so they are not CANADA'S property. They instituted new rules this year and aren't even following those. They make an extremely small portion of their income from killing seal pups. Grow up, get a brain.

okay 1 it is illegal to kill baby seals period. if you do you go to jail and recieve a massive fine. 2 of course the seal hunters are pissed off at you, your trying to end a hunt that makes over 50% of their income. 3 the hakipic is actually relativly humane, 1 strike kills 98% of the time, much more humane then guns that are no were near as a effective. 4 if you truly want 2 end the hunt then protest the manufactures,the hunt will continue as long as their is a demand.

In its current form yes.

If they can kill in an effective humane way, it could arguably be considered a sustainable hunt. But it's not a hunt, it's a concentrated slaughter, ineffective killing, hacking and hacking, skinning alive, animals getting away wounded, etc.

I have yet to hear ANY constructive comments from a hunter or a pro seal hunter. Keep it up and get no sympathy.

No, they are in the territories. Its no mans land. The sad fact is that you will never stop the hunt as long as it is profitable. Humans will always take advantage of the resources around them and seals are renewable. Horrific to you but true. I hate the fact that people club baby seals and I am Canadian. It's a mute point though. The pollution you are contributing to will end thier habitat soon enough. Ironically you could have done more to save the seals by staying home.
