This was a demo version of the game shown at E3. Notice that an unfinished version of the Good Egg Galaxy theme is playing in the Megaleg level. The 8 hits were a vestige from Sunshine and 64 that they got rid of when they realized the game was too easy with that much health.

That's a beta version of the game. Megaleg (referred to as the Bullet Bill BOSS) in the final game had a Grand Star, not your run-of-the-mill Power Star.

the beta (prototype) version has 8 HP because i think they wanted to keep lives consistency in the series. in super mario 64 and super mario sunshine (the two previous games) you would get 8 lives. but i guess before releasing the game to the public they thought that 8 HP was too much and they reduced it to 3

This is the beta version, of course. This video was added like, 3 years ago. You usually don't hear people talking in the background unless it's a beta at E3 or something or if it's a Tournament.

Thanx Nubi, it would seem the guys at Nintendo weren't really detail-orientated the day they made that character. BTW, there was this add on TV over here in the States about 2 years ago; it was about school violence and shootings, it showed a pistol cartridge (casing and all) flying thru the air! FAIL! If you are going to make a TV add, take the time to do your F'ing homework! Bet the company that put the add together got payed well too :(

well actually super mario galaxy, on the contrary, was harder to program. you have to make the "gravity" bend around the planets. if they used super mario 64 style gravity, then you would fall off going to the other side
