Diamond told the Sun newspaper May 16, 2008 about this track: "I stand back and look at Pretty Amazing Grace and to me it's a song about the perfection of love. To somebody else, it's gonna mean something else. There was no premeditated idea. What does it all mean? I don't know and I don't care. It's gonna be what it is. I feel much the same about all the songs."

I get from his lyrics the love for God. Because it does say in verse two, "As I enter your chapel".

That would be a literal reading of the lyrics. Entering the chapel could be a metaphor and indicate his worship of his love.People go to church for comfort and a place of refuge, maybe that's how he feels about his wife/girlfriend?

Do you ever read the book of Psalms? I kind of identify this song with something King David wrote. Try Psalms 95 where he said Come sing for the rock of our salvation. King David's lifetime was long before the birth of Christ. Remember one thing. Jewish people are no different than us Christians. They love the Lord as much as I would as a Christian. This is beautiful. I've just listened to the new album - HOME BEFORE DARK. Be advised there is a deluxe edition with 2 extra songs on the CD. Both are fantastic. The songs are WITHOUT HER ( Harry Nilsson covered this) and MAKE YOU FEEL MY LOVE - two stunningly performed songs. And a DVD with live studio songs - PRETTY AMAZING GRACE,IF I DON'T SEE YOU AGAIN, FORGOTTEN and Paul Simon's THE BOXER. One of the best albums of songs I've ever heard. Beautiful. Well worth paying for the extra's!
