This guys are pretty messed in the head as all extremist usually do. Their music is quite lame and their only point seem to be the political views, the nazi/fascist imagery and so on. Well, make the equation; add some far left to some far right units then multiply it by homosexual repression and divided it by some Zionist and Neonazi American friendships and then you have Death In June; a bunch of fucked up guys making noise, marching nowhere.
Death In June is not typical music. Google the band name and read the Wikipedia article for some really basic info about the history of this collective of recording artists.
DIJ is just another artyfarty band who are fascist posers. When they get critisised by the left wing the start to cry "We are not fascist! Please dont hit us!" But they stand ifront of the mirror at home screaming sieg heil... Just ordinary cowards who want to be little "radical".
that was fucking kool. pretty raw indeed, reminds me of alot of crazy fucked up memories i have. east= frozen hell to me. fucking russians, fucking allies, fucking war. fuck. madness!!!!
"Death in June's sole mission was to make self-righteous people disgusted with themselves. These guys came form the Far left Punk band Crisis, where they witnessed themselves the folly of self-righteousness."
Death in June's sole mission was to make self-righteous people disgusted with themselves. These guys came form the Far left Punk band Crisis, where they witnessed themselves the folly of self-righteousness. When you keep going left you hit Stalin, when you keep going right you hit Hitler. Both are equal in evil.
Got a hitch up the ol' britches there before gettin' at those kettle drums.
So is the "needs more kettle drum" comment supposed to be a play on the "more cowbell" meme from SNL? Only for neo-fascist bands? Sorry, I mean World War 2 buffs who are only intrigued about one very specific side in that war? "It's a Death in June thing - you wouldn't understand," ought to be on their shirts or something.
I got a joy division vibe immediately lol. Joy division was a nazi reference or so I've read, it referred to forced prostitutes who were organized into units which bore names such as joy division or pleasure battalion etc. It doesn't make one a nazi to call on an experience for its 'scenery'
Yes. It isnt like social-darwinism and fascism are actually valid ideas: its just that they are more inspiring and provoking. Lets face it- straight liberalism, that is, democracy and socialism, while acceptable on an intellectual level, fails to inspire us in the personal struggles of passion and power that other systems do.
it's pretty obvious that mr douglas p. is anything else than a fascist. and nothing comes closer to ian, hooky, bernie and steve than the early DI6-stuff.
Maybe unpleasant, though the imagery is merely to provoke and distinguish themselves from the music/art scene. But most important, the music, well some of it, is great. Who cares about third reich flirtation? They are like post-post gay nazi's in the post-war discours. There is no point in pointing at their ideological background for it is irrelevant in the political and cultural reality of today. It is like starting a napoleontic or Hannibalistic war elephant orchestra.
Yup. These chaps have Third Reich written all over them. It is odd that one of their number was expelled for membership of the British National Front (see Sol Invictus). I think there is a gay member as well. Is this some kind of looney protest!?
Very strange indeed. However in the 1980s pop scene ( mainly in Britain) it was somehow cool or hip to "provoke" with Third Reich rhetorik as New Order, The Stranglers and Spandau Ballet did.
Zhenling, its clearly obvious you havent even an inkling of an idea of what you're implying. you know nothing about national socialist culture, except for what your meanial brain has learned in 7th grade history and from Oprah and Phil Donahue. So please, do us all a favor, and take your half-assed observations and piss off.
Saw them in 1983 with Sex Gang Children. Didn't know who they were then so didn't pay much attention(!). Seemed to freak everyone out, much more than the headliners...
great live track from a inimitable post-everything musical calliope in its earliest (post- CRISIS) incarnation before each went their separate ways. for more sounds like this check out the "bootleg" 'Oh How We Laughed' (live 1982), or 'The Guilty Have No Pride, Burial and Lesson One: Misanthropy. This era of the band features the most incredible synthesis of LEFT meets RIGHT likely ever written into the annals of rock history. That alone is enough.
Hello.U woldnt happen to know if "Lesson One:Misanthropy is available NOW, on cd f.eks, stupid question maybe, i could searh more. Noluck so far. Umention this,my local record-dealer have no clue...so i thought maybe.. Bye from oslo
It just so happens that "Lesson one: Misanthropy" is now available on CD with 3 DVD live tracks too (released 2009). This is a pain, as I have the vinyl from when it came out, but no record player, so I can't listen to the amazing track "State Laughter": it's blinding!
I had the same problem... So i had to download those early Di6 - tracks as mp3-files. Costed me a little and i do not like comprimated sound...But i had to get back them songs.
Any chance of you putting up more songs from this on youtube?? This is the best death in june video I have seen, Not quality-wise of course, but I would love to see more live recordings from this time period. I will probably end up buying the CD+DVD. as well as that Behind The Mask DVD. right now all I have is the Live in Italy 1999 DVD. Please let me know if you're going to post more from this DVD on here. Thanks much for sharing this one.

They are carrying the Joy Division,Warsaw "Ideal for Living" theme even further, I think that is obvious.
They are not nazi-s, more they are post-war realists/surrealists.
It's good music either way though the sound on this is terrible.
