Now the Canadian Prim Minister is apologizing to the aboriginals for the mistreatment of the aboriginal children received in the residential schools, the day will come when the Canadians will apologise to the world for belittling and demeaning foreign trained professionals who immigrated to Canada. The Canadian educational system is so low they produce incompetent pupils who cannot read or write. That is karma at work another karma at work, the Children Aid Services destroying white families.
Apparently you are the incompetent one because you are commenting on an education system that you have spent no time in. Childhood education was relatively low, however, post-secondary education is excellent.
Also, don't immigrate to a country and then complain about what you find once you arrive.
STAY in your own country if you don't like it here, nobody cares. It is your life right? So go live somewhere you want or are you the unintelligent one?
@getonmylevelho3 I am here to educate white crack heads. Ask my boss, I taught him how to boot a computer. I don’t think you know what it is to boot a computer.
what the fuck are you saying "udubbz11"? why dont you spend all your childhood in residential school and see how you would turn out! we were here first ! and you people wouldnt have fuck all if it wasnt for the"indian act" so shut the fuck up you fucking peice of shit!
More money hasn't worked for decades. I am a white man. However, most of my closest friends are either Native or Metis. MANY of my friends on the reserve say EXACTLY the same thing. That the "leaders" of reserves are NOT distributing the money properly. They live in mansions, while the "people" of the reserve get very little.
Maybe training and properly distributed money will help.
I believe they are entitled to compensation, does anyone seem to forget that this is THEIR land, we STOLE it and then FORCED them onto reserves on the worst terrain in Canada. Then later we thought we could educate them by trying to strip their culture in horrific ways. It is a disgrace in Canadian history and natives deserve whatever they want who is anyone to argue or criticize them.
The reason that all of that money doesnt help solve the problem is that most of it is spent on the beraurocracy, that the DIAND has set up to make progress almost unachieveable. the policies of the DIAND must be changed or the DIAND abolished if were to see significant change. If I gave you a billion dollars but told you that you could not spend it on clothes and food you would still starve and freeze. Guys like this have no idea where the real problems stem from.
1. I dislike the use of the word "partook". It makes it sound like the children's years in residential schools was voluntary.
2. Values of hard work, independence, and self-reliance were things that were supposed to have been stripped from the Indian peoples to begin with, and to some degree they were, namely independence and self-reliance (think of the banning of the potlatch). But if they were so void of said values I don't think they would have survived what they did as well as they did.
we got to see the true colors of gov't and these churches and they must incorporate all there Residential school dealing into there statement of belief and statement of doctrine from now on
the reservation land should be made back to FREE land for all native Americans , ..in truth All land should be free & we should all be Free spirits able to make our own choices.....
you're comment the money doesn't solve it?!? Is RIGHT! Quit trying to take and take and TAKE! Theft of resources and wanting to believe might is right, doens't cut it any more,...The Secwepemc, the Crees, the other Nations know, even you're so-called religion of God knows, thou shalt not steal! Kill! Lie! Pratice what you preach! We do! After all the abuses, we're here and we know,..simple! Go get the right education, not what your for fathers think was right! u have't paid nothing yet!
I wanted to make a profound comment but all of you (for the most part) have stated eloquently what needed to be said. I thank you and you make my heart proud. Keep educating others and speaking out for what's right! May the Great Spirit bless you for speaking truth!
Where he says hard work, independence and self reliance is needed... how is this possible when many of the First Nation's reserves are in remote areas? How can they work hard where there is no jobs? No adequate health care? You cannot expect those things from someone when you don't offer the resources to even give them the opportunity to be self-reliant and independent.
Hard work and self-reliance, eh? Does it occur to any of these people that the root problem is assimilation? Sure, "Western" (European) thinking and the Christian religion aren't crammed down their throats anymore, but there are still problems.
What good are the houses, fire halls, police stations/jails, and other such infrastructure on reserves, when supplies and skilled labour to maintain them must be imported, at great cost.
More Zionist canadian made propaganda to disguise the gargantuan theft of Indigenous lands. Let's look at the trillions of dollars extracted from Indigenous lands. Could you image tallying that one up since corpcanada set up their phony country on Indigenous land. Is their a monetary figure that goes that high?
Pierre is absolutely right and I'm proud to have him as my MP. Problems faced by aboriginal communities are not unique to any one group in society. Their problems can be linked to the practice of isolating aboriginal communities on reserves far from urban centres. If aboriginal peoples were to integrate into the larger community, by moving into urban centres and participating in mainstream education and social services programs, crime rates and addiction rates would decrease.
But we don't want to be assimilated into Canadian society. We have a rich culture. Our languages and traditions are who we are. It is has been that way for thousands of years. The Canadian government has no right to impose the "European"/capitalist way of life on aboriginals just because they think it is "better for us" Where do they get that right? Why do people think that Aboriginal peoples should have to give up their way of life? Quebec has power to govern themselves, First Nations should too
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't think you can simply throw money at a problem and expect it to get better, but I also know that the track record for assimilation hasn't been so shiny. How can we assume it will be shiny in the future?
there is no such things as aboriginals being secluded on reserves, but the seclusion that is inflicted by non-natives by treating the indigenous like aliens in their own land.
that is the sickness that plagues this country, and also the people that think they have all the answers for the worlds problems.
just leave us natives be and we can take care of our own, and will ask for assistance when it is needed, much like the help your forefathers received when being taught how to survive this harsh continent from my ancestors.
Following on the heels of what creegirl852 said, assimilation is (to a large extent) part of the origin of the problems faced by first nations peoples today. Like my dad always told me, "if it doesn't go, don't force it". Assimilation doesn't go, it never has.
Reverse your point and take a look at the mirror image. Maybe all other Canadians should assimilate to first nations societies? Something about that kind of stings...

Even if he isn't native, what's to say he is not educated on this subject matter? There is a lot you can learn from listening to a friend and emphasizing with their emotions.
Perhaps you should not only respect who you assume to be a fellow native but all people?
Lets not forget that the money (ten billion dollars) you speak of is stolen wealth
these were native lands to begin with the British empire came to cease the land and its resources, natives were cheated, murdered, and stripped of its identification.
There is no money on the reserves because non-natives left very little resources for the natives to sustain them selves.
While I'm all for this racial equality, people have to accept that when someone comes down on you and completely takes you and your nation by storm, they don't OWE you anything, they're not obligated to return anything to you.
The British Empire took their land, and so it became British Land, they no longer have any claim to it, other than this whole "we were there first" thing.
That is hegemonic thinking and call me a hippie but hegemony can kill all.
If you think that it is the inherent right of the dominant nation to take over a less powerful group of people, would you also say that it is a (perverted) man's right to dominate a less powerful woman sexually without her consent, for example? Or for an adult to continually beat a child? How come when the "dominant" comes in large numbers they are granted this right?
I do apologize, it seems that you've misinterpreted my comment. I suppose that it's my fault for not clarifying and it's my fault for responding in anger to the first guy.
No, I don't consider it an inherent right of one person, group, or nation to dominate another. The main thrust of my comment was that when one group so completed subjugates another the dominant group has effectively stripped them of their rights. And no I wouldn't agree with your statements about rape and child abuse.
I won't say it was the right thing for the British to do. But the reality is that the First Nations have become displaced peoples. And while yes back when it was still a reversible action the British should have definitely given them back their land it's far too late for that to be even remotely feasible now. I think that a lot of Canadians reject the notion that we have no right to the land we live on for the reasons that our ancestors have bled and died for this land too.
Hmm didnt see Harper in that clip anywhere should change the title of that vid doenst make sense. One other thing the Mp is both wrong and right if you view it honestly. Compensation is deserved but money is not the only awnser.
i dont think you know what u are talking about,to me it seems he is advocating cutting off funding to reserves or maybe taking the power from us to govern our selves.also there is simply no money generated on reserves thus creating no work leaving natives to work off reserves which makes us all tax payers any ways. if you are what you say you are then i dont really think you fully understand these issues, i think your a fraud sticking up for this pretentious non-native,
Oh yeah. You will all use money issues now. Hey, what about the muslim who got 10 million in a lawsuit for spending time overseas prison with a mishap in canadian government and U.S. And people want to complain about some compensation for First Nations people. Come on already, this was a one time payment, and they will eventually be self sufficient, but if they OWN the land, just like any corporation, they are going to get revenue, where it is due.
yeah i can get what people mean my grandfather is a holocaust survivor my dad was a Jew living in Lebanon and i have seen what goes on behind closed doors but spending money somehow makes the situation better? um...money Cant buy happiness if you want the indigenous people to be happy give them some fucking land you retard not "engender the values of hard work and self reliance" what!? is he high that is not a straight answer it's like asking someone how there day was and hearing "yes" RESIGN!!!
The money is for programs that will allow FN people to heal in their own way. It pays off in the long run. As for the compensation: Every other person who has been a victim of a crime get's has the right to be financially compensated (albeit WAY MORE money, usually)so why not this group?
of course he's right. they are getting a ridiculous amount of money, but its not helping. but you dont say shit like that on the same day that the prime minister apologizes for residential schools.
actually in comariso to other settlements and compensation awards Aboriginal people are gettig a very small amount of money. One white woman in Ontario recieved 100 x that of a survivor for similiar abuse in an institution as a child! I really wish peiople would do their homework before commenting.
The money is helping! go visit a FN healing center and than comment! I know many survivors that have achieved many of their dremas with their piddly compensation! However money can NEVER take back what they lost!
Yes, our people are receiving money for the abuse they've gone through and thats your way of apologizing. But there's no money in the world, you can pay, that will give back to the communities. What you have taken away from them.
I don't think, you'd want to be put in their shoes and go through physical, verbal and emotional abuse they sub stained throughout the years.
Wow, you're an MP you should know it's going to the Departments administering the money...for every dollar you allocate, .20 cents actually gets to the people...time for reform...get rid of your departments and become accountable with the resources you are administering.
What a Fuckin idiot...undermining the whole apology...Pierre put yourself in the shoes of one who has survived the hardship and abuse of these schools...I bet you would change your opinion about compensation...
No one is protesting Canadians! The protests are about Aboriginal Canadaians living in 3rd world conditions. I know many politicians that live far better than the people that voted for them, duh! Let's stop placig blame and start living up to the HDI! We are rated as one of the top coutries to live in in the world, but if you factor in Aboriginal statistics we are comparable toe Mexico!!!!!!!That's embarassing.
Oh it is about trauma. What do you know about Aboriginal Leadership? How can you blame commuity leaders for the money that goes directly to treatment centres and programs in urban areas. There is simply not enough. This has nothing to do with "Aboriginal Leadership"
How does this show Harper's true colours? It has been reported that Harper was actually very upset by this and demanded an apology from the MP. Every party has loose cannons.
Oh and for your information the compensation is for the direct survivors. The last Res. schools closed in the late 80's. And there is a 3-6 month waiting list for Res. school survivors who want treatment for their trauma. So clearly there isn't enough money yet! It is a proven fact that the high suicide rate (up to 85% in some communities and high infant mortality rate is directly related to Racist and cruel government policies Res. school likely having the most profound impact.
. Not to mention the effect of the torture that you suffered, your isolation from your traditions and culture family and community and everything that makes a person a healthy person. research the effects of trauma and intergenerational trauma and institutionalization. An intelligent person approaches these sensitive issues with curiosity and a open mind. Commenting from blind ignorance makes for a great BIGOT.
Do your research people before you comment. The symptoms of trauma or more prevalent in the future generations then in the survivors themselves sometimes. There is a lot of research about this regarding the holocaust in Europe! The suicide rate is higher among children of trauma survivors that in the survivors themselves. If you were not taught how to parent because you grew up abused in a institutional setting than it is impossible for you to know how to parent.
These people are still alive... this shit happened when your Mom and Dad were alive... so if this happened to your parents.. what .. youre gonna say fuck it... move on? I don't think so. Educate yourself you self absorbed twat!
In contination of my comment, HOWEVER, if you have personally suffered, not someone you happen to have a distant link to, but YOU. If you have suffered yourself, you should be compensated.
I'm two sided on this. I don't really support giving money to Aboriginals because they happen to have a genetic link to someone who lived five generations ago. They are getting money because they happen to be genetically descended from someone who may or may not have been abused. So why am I, tghe guy who was not even responsible in any way for the actions that took place however many years ago, paying money in my taxes to someone who just happens to be of a certain race.
Sorry I should really add it. It's just no one was defending the government.. That being said, why should someone descended from a First Nation live in abject poverty? What kind of justice can they be given? Money is not justice, it's simply a tool to say "Here, now shut up". I think that it's something that the government really needs to consider. Aboriginals need to be given something lasting, something that actually means something. Not something that will be gone at the end of the week!
4 billion dollars divided equally among 130 000 survivors is just over 30 thousand dollars per person, PIERRE. That's a slap in the face considering that we kidnapped children from their loving families and then tried to beat, rape and indoctrinate tehir culture and religion out of them.
I wonder how much you'd think it was worth if someone took YOU as a 4 year old and beat the crap out of you all your childhood. You embarrass us all, you tool.
How many billion dollars are they spending in Afghanistan and they are not even helping Canadian people?? That is a BIG PROBLEM, that they should look at instead of indian reserves.
Mr. Pierre has the numbers down pat however does he realize that many families have been dislocated from thier own history, faith and family sructure. It is very unfortunate to hear this however all members of Canada do have freedom of speech in which they can say what ever it is they want. However, they cannot impose the beliefs "they" have any more! It is about time that Canada and The Church system begin to make ammends for what has and apparently is still is going on. Grab a brain Pierre?
You almost get the impression that Pierre is a racist. He wants to repeat the error that was being apologized for by having another colonialization through forcing his values on the Aboriginal community. Most of the numbers and so-called facts he mentioned are myths. Our country will only heal from this tragic mistake when we realize that the Aboriginal culture has value. We need to resolve land claims now. Then Aboriginal leaders can develop an economic response to rebuilding their communities.
No disrepect to the aboriginals who's life was effected...They deserve every penny and more...
Harpers speech seemed sincere...but what is going to be done about the Canadian child protection agencies who carry out the same atrocities against Canadian families?
This is an equally long over due Canadian discrace that is being ignored! When are Canadian families going to come before corruption. When?
CPS oversight and accountability now!!! Learn from our mistakes not keep repeating them.
Well maybe the extra 4 billion might scratch the surface of the destoyed lives..Money does not solve the problem. But tell that to an aboriginal who's life has been destroyed. An apology can only go so far.

The British Empire took their land, and so it became British Land, they no longer have any claim to it, other than this whole "we were there first" thing.

haha i didn't support you in your comments with the other guy but definitely this one.
Kelter82 2 years ago
That is hegemonic thinking and call me a hippie but hegemony can kill all.
If you think that it is the inherent right of the dominant nation to take over a less powerful group of people, would you also say that it is a (perverted) man's right to dominate a less powerful woman sexually without her consent, for example? Or for an adult to continually beat a child? How come when the "dominant" comes in large numbers they are granted this right?
Kelter82 2 years ago
I do apologize, it seems that you've misinterpreted my comment. I suppose that it's my fault for not clarifying and it's my fault for responding in anger to the first guy.
No, I don't consider it an inherent right of one person, group, or nation to dominate another. The main thrust of my comment was that when one group so completed subjugates another the dominant group has effectively stripped them of their rights. And no I wouldn't agree with your statements about rape and child abuse.
Jesusmilitary 2 years ago

That is correct in my view.

i dont think you know what u are talking about,to me it seems he is advocating cutting off funding to reserves or maybe taking the power from us to govern our selves.also there is simply no money generated on reserves thus creating no work leaving natives to work off reserves which makes us all tax payers any ways. if you are what you say you are then i dont really think you fully understand these issues, i think your a fraud sticking up for this pretentious non-native,

As for the compensation: Every other person who has been a victim of a crime get's has the right to be financially compensated (albeit WAY MORE money, usually)so why not this group?

he is correct !
canadianna21206 3 years ago
of course he's right. they are getting a ridiculous amount of money, but its not helping. but you dont say shit like that on the same day that the prime minister apologizes for residential schools.
mohman742 3 years ago
actually in comariso to other settlements and compensation awards Aboriginal people are gettig a very small amount of money. One white woman in Ontario recieved 100 x that of a survivor for similiar abuse in an institution as a child! I really wish peiople would do their homework before commenting.
filekfan 3 years ago
The money is helping! go visit a FN healing center and than comment! I know many survivors that have achieved many of their dremas with their piddly compensation! However money can NEVER take back what they lost!
filekfan 3 years ago
Yes, our people are receiving money for the abuse they've gone through and thats your way of apologizing. But there's no money in the world, you can pay, that will give back to the communities. What you have taken away from them.
I don't think, you'd want to be put in their shoes and go through physical, verbal and emotional abuse they sub stained throughout the years.
tylerlad1956 3 years ago
Wow, you're an MP you should know it's going to the Departments administering the money...for every dollar you allocate, .20 cents actually gets to the people...time for reform...get rid of your departments and become accountable with the resources you are administering.

What a Fuckin idiot...undermining the whole apology...Pierre put yourself in the shoes of one who has survived the hardship and abuse of these schools...I bet you would change your opinion about compensation...

Your correct. Do you think our health care could perhaps squeeze a hundred dollars to help the dying.

This has nothing to do with "Aboriginal Leadership"
filekfan 3 years ago
How does this show Harper's true colours? It has been reported that Harper was actually very upset by this and demanded an apology from the MP. Every party has loose cannons.
1hmm2 3 years ago
Oh and for your information the compensation is for the direct survivors. The last Res. schools closed in the late 80's. And there is a 3-6 month waiting list for Res. school survivors who want treatment for their trauma. So clearly there isn't enough money yet! It is a proven fact that the high suicide rate (up to 85% in some communities and high infant mortality rate is directly related to Racist and cruel government policies Res. school likely having the most profound impact.
filekfan 3 years ago
. Not to mention the effect of the torture that you suffered, your isolation from your traditions and culture family and community and everything that makes a person a healthy person. research the effects of trauma and intergenerational trauma and institutionalization. An intelligent person approaches these sensitive issues with curiosity and a open mind. Commenting from blind ignorance makes for a great BIGOT.
filekfan 3 years ago
Do your research people before you comment. The symptoms of trauma or more prevalent in the future generations then in the survivors themselves sometimes. There is a lot of research about this regarding the holocaust in Europe! The suicide rate is higher among children of trauma survivors that in the survivors themselves. If you were not taught how to parent because you grew up abused in a institutional setting than it is impossible for you to know how to parent.

JesusMilitary UR a fucking douchebag!!!!
These people are still alive... this shit happened when your Mom and Dad were alive... so if this happened to your parents.. what .. youre gonna say fuck it... move on? I don't think so. Educate yourself you self absorbed twat!
NewStandardPress 3 years ago
In contination of my comment, HOWEVER, if you have personally suffered, not someone you happen to have a distant link to, but YOU. If you have suffered yourself, you should be compensated.
Jesusmilitary 3 years ago
I'm two sided on this. I don't really support giving money to Aboriginals because they happen to have a genetic link to someone who lived five generations ago. They are getting money because they happen to be genetically descended from someone who may or may not have been abused. So why am I, tghe guy who was not even responsible in any way for the actions that took place however many years ago, paying money in my taxes to someone who just happens to be of a certain race.
Jesusmilitary 3 years ago
where the second side jesus?
filekfan 3 years ago
Sorry I should really add it. It's just no one was defending the government.. That being said, why should someone descended from a First Nation live in abject poverty? What kind of justice can they be given? Money is not justice, it's simply a tool to say "Here, now shut up". I think that it's something that the government really needs to consider. Aboriginals need to be given something lasting, something that actually means something. Not something that will be gone at the end of the week!

He has given voice to the most negative, offensive, racist stereotypes possible.
MayTagerfeld 3 years ago 7

If all this so called money came our way, why is it that poverty on our communities is comparable to third world countries????????
Someone needs to be more educated. Maybe not just educated but as the saying goes " walk a mile in my moccasins!"
beautyinbuckskin 3 years ago

So true....
BlackSabbath4Ever 3 years ago 2

Learn from our mistakes not keep repeating them.
saddeneddad 3 years ago 2
Well maybe the extra 4 billion might scratch the surface of the destoyed lives..Money does not solve the problem. But tell that to an aboriginal who's life has been destroyed. An apology can only go so far.
