In fact this is also Melanie's real musical role from the time we know her. And if you ask me , right age or not, I think she did a fantastic job. She was very nervous, also to the opening night which was where I saw it. But she was just amazing though she was nervous. But who wouldn't get nervous at the opening night of something they've never really done before? Melanie C is a fantastic person and a fantastic star. I would love to see it again with her starring someday :)
i have seen blood brothers many many times, i have lost count. i have watched it tonight in front of melanies home crowd of liverpool on the opening night at the liverpool empire. while she was very good and did indeed hold her own, i just felt there was something missing and i have ocme to the conclusion that she is too young for such an iconic role. my favourites have to be both nolan sisters and helen reddy. barbara dickson believe it or not was the worst mrs j i have ever seen.

Barbara Dickson is still AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE BEST MRS JOHNSON Good luck Mel will see you in Liverpool to reassess my opinions but a hard act to follow.
Although her nerves I think her performance was amazing. I mean everyone gets nervous when its a first time. And I was proud of her that night. I knew she could act but she really impressed be very much that night and yeah she has improved herself now and she is much better but she was just great at the opening show. I wish I could have stayed over there to see every shows of her in the play. BUt I cant. BUt now it has almost reached its end and she had a great success with the musical <3 <3
OMG i saw this with my Sixth Form a few days ago and CRIED my eyes out....still cried the day after....it was incredible. Mel C's voice needs raped by me ;D
26th October was the 'official' opening night wasn't it? For the press etc? My school went to see it on the 23rd and I think that was her first proper night.. Apparently she was more nervous on this night than the 23rd, I can imagine because she was getting judged! She did a very good job, I think it is obvious she isn't an experienced West End actress or singer though, but she soon will be :)
@ Micromaeve so Melanie is too young but the other guys can play 7 year olds and you are not complaining about that? But like Satanspuppet said, can't please anyone.
OMG i saw it then too. She is amazing i love her. i waited to get her autograph at the stage door. Word of advise to anyone who wants her autograph after the show, get down there quick as she leaves very quickly, like withing the first 10 mins after the end of the show!
went last night to the Pheonix it was amazing she in my opinion did a brilliant job and at the end i just had to stand up and clap for such an amazing cast that did a moving performance.
Im definately going again if the chance comes xx. thankyou for posting this
i was here at this exact one, would do anything to watch it again, it shit me right up when the police was in the crowd though and they fired as i was half asleep lol, good story line =)
She was UBER nervous this night, I'm surprised she didn't fluff her lines but she was visibly shaking throughout and the tears of relief she let out throughout this song, said it all.
a few nights later she was 100 times better and she's WOW'd the london critics with five star reviews from all the big papers... you can't please everyone though.
Hope this is the start of a west end career for melanie :)
When you've seen people like Linda Nolan play the part , people that actually know a really hard working class background they bring so much realness to the part
I didn't think she was bad , but a dramatic step down from previous actors
@Matty3Mite3 I respectfully disagree. I saw Linda Nolan and I just saw Mel C last night and, while I think Nolan was fantastic, I think Melanie held her own. She was fantastic...
@Micromaeve I dont think its right to say she isnt the right age to play mrs johnston as you have to rememeber this musical takes place starting with young mrs johnston and progresses to old mrs johnston so technically every actress will either be too young or too old for the role unless you double cast which would then lead to contingonsy problems. Not the best redition Ive heard but it was ok.
Saw Mel C in this show last night, while she makes a good Mrs Johnson, she is rather too young for the role. Having been to this show a number of times over the years, it works best when Mrs Johnson is played by an older women.
the lady who played mrs johnson was amazing seriously.
this is my favourite musical ever. so emotional so deep. when they shoot each other at the end and the big bang goes off i screamed i was so embarressed lol
I cried too. And I never cry in public for some reason, but the whole musical was just fabulous and she was JUST AMAZING I must say. (not because I am a fan) but she was/is. I really want to go again. I just cant afford another ticket :'(
Mrs Johnstone = Melanie C = Fantastic Job <3 I think she was amazing even though she was nervous. But its also her first real musical performance so its okay to be nervous <3.
she did great, but im so angry at myself i couldnt go. if i was truely a fan i would have done something about it, but obviously i'm a terrible fan. the worst melanie c fan on the planet=ME!
noo you can still go and see her. It doesnt matter when you go. But you would be bad if you didnt go and see her in it at all, cos youre missing out on a fabby performance!
Again again again - it is so not true ... you cant be all places at once even though you want to. There arent worse or good fans - were all fans our own ways. :D
this voice is in my life since i was 13! now i'm 25 and i cant get enough of these girls so glad for melanie, she deserves all the success. Go melanie we your fans will be here to support you
she was so amazing - I cried in the end. The show was brilliant. Thanks for posting. Hope the soundtracks will be out soon. - She was ... oh damn undescribable. (if that's a word (I'm Danish)) XD - but it was the best of two musicals/shows I have seen ever - not because of Melanie but just the story,
"who couldn't get their lines right" - nice vibrato on the female voice there (that's not Melanie).

I watched her today. 100 stars. That's how good she was.
And to top it and prove it, the whole audience stood on their feet, applauding at the end.

Urrrrhhhhh this is awful, voice isn't right, accent isn't right, not old enough to play Mrs Johnston.
This casting was a mistake, this makes me angry,
