  • Nice attempts, really interesting. Thanks!

  • hahaha did you hit the car at 3:54? lol

  • Your planes seem to fly a bit tail heavy, and I must look at the next one to see if you have corrected this tendency or not.

  • A suggestion, we had a 3D sign, 4ft x 8ft x 2ft, scanned and laser cut from styrofoam. Some of the smaller "0's" are nearly annular wing design you are trying to achieve, you would of course have to dial in the dimensions, but yes a near perfect fit. The entire sign cost $600, so a single elliptical, the size you would need shouldn't be more then about 10% of that. The work was done by a place called "Heavy Industries" Inc. Probably many more places do it now in Calgary now, that was in 04.

  • exelent vertical take off!!!!!!!!

  • box plane looks a bit to tail heavy

  • Why not put the prop/motor in the middle of the anular wing so it will be out of the way to experiment with the front design

  • I agree it was a bit too tail heavy, also the cut out middle of the wing didn't help. Did you see part 4?

  • no, but ill chck it out now

  • HI I would like to make a suggestion for you I have been playing with annular wing design as will. the best foam I have found is at walmart its foam board with paper on both sides. you pull off the paper on both sides. use a rolling pin and you will gradually cause the wing to curve you will also get a much smoother stronger less brittle wing let me know. and good luck.

  • sounds like a good idea, I plan on revisiting annular wing VTOLs, I could try that!

  • Well you should make a shape out of wood that matches the inside of the tube and then build the wing/tube around that. In such case you could use wood (balsa or similar light weight wood) to build it. This type of method is often used when you build things of thin wood like bowls, buckets etc.

  • I thought about that, however I worried that the wood would add too much weight. In the future it would probably be the next step.

  • well you could go for the expensive stuff and use fiber glas :)

  • I agree. On another subject have you seen the proto VTOL videos on here some of the disigns are very interesting! check them out

  • ? isn't a box plane the same as a biplane?

  • No, however they are very similar because a boxplane in basically a biplane with add-ons to the wings so they form a box shape. They are closer to an annular wing than anything.

  • Can we just say future Boeing engineer

  • lets hope!

  • i have a really stable and really good flying annular wing

  • wow this is really neat. i once saw a paper airplane with an annular wing and wondered if it could be applied to rc.keep up the great work!

  • Thanks, and the paper plane is pretty neat! I originally planed to make something almost exactly like the paper annular wing plane.

  • Thanks, and thanks for commenting

  • Impressive! Keep up the great design work!
