and people wonders why I was AGAINST UN? this is fucking sick. what we should do, no MUST do, is question and critizise MORE. EVERYTHING. ESPECIALLY religion of all sorts. this is really a step backwards
Interesting debate. They have some hope in the US with the First Amendment. However, here in Europe, the body politic will grovel, as is their custom, to the demands of Islam. I can see Resolution 64/152 being transposed into national law by stealth, no doubt cloaked in cosy multicultural rhetoric !
Agreed. Christian fundamentalists will no doubt be happy about this law as well and now they have a nice pretext for (once again) imposing their theist bigotry on everyone.
Sure. But lets be honest. Christian fundamentalists arent much of a threat in Europe and are subject to intense media and academic scrutiny. Islam, on the other hand, is the great threat to us all but woe to anybody who tries to highlight or debate this in public. Remember the Popes reference to the Byzantine Emperors comment ! The Muslims went ape-shit as expected but the scary thing is how the European media condemned the Pope and supported the Muslims. The fear in Europe is palpable.
Maybe if the crazy over reactive branch of Islam would stop putting Fatwas on Authors, freaking out and call for murder over cartoons and movies that hurt their feelings (someone get them some big boy undies and tell them to grow up.. .sheesh) , hearing about honor killings, etc. the rest of the world will stop criticizing their religion so much. Attempting to control what we say via the UN will only backfire.
Let me tell you a story about the United Nations: I used to manage the Al Rasheed Hotel in Baghdad. The UN folks used to live in the Hotel. It is like they took one lazy and incompetent person from each country in the world and threw them into a building to create a seriously dysfunctional organization. Well, we had this UN guy who would shit in his closet every day. It drove my cleaners crazy. I continually brought this up with UN leadership to no avail. The UN is a disaster.
You see, I agree with you, except I think hating the hater is completely justified, and does not make you as bad as them. I agree that it is stupid, and achieves nothing; I'm not arguing that. But I don't see random comments like that on youtube making any huge negative impact in the end either. And I didn't see it targeted at ALL muslims, but rather those who want to silence criticism.
Words and thoughts don't hurt people. If you give hate, you deserve hate, but turning it into actual action is not okay. That's all I'm saying. Not that hard to grasp is it?
Ahh, I see. Upon further inspection: you live in Britain!
Still....congratulations on not getting Theo van Goghed and still managing not to have a Ayaan Hirsi Ali-style entourage. You're doing very well for an apostate!
How are you even alive? My, oh my, that means modern day Iran, for all it's faults is still far and away a more progressive state than Middle Ages Europe.
Congratulations on evading the thought/morality police down there in Religiot town, sir. I wish you continued success on not getting stoned/flogged/burned.
Good point. How we treat religion as this untouchable subject to criticism and ridicule, is just so stupid. All religions should be criticized and exposed as untruths and fairytales from the ancient times. Delusional behaviour in the highest form.
I don't have a problem with hating the hater. I do have a problem with the "That makes you just as bad as them!" argument though. Whatever happened to getting what you give?
I wouldn't condone shooting someone yelling "Kill the infidels!" or something. But I don't care if someone thinks they should be shot. (Think about it)
i don't understand why there is even debate about this?
a system without negative feedback will become unstable. as soon as you ban criticism of something, you remove that one thing that keeps it under control.
"a system without negative feedback will become unstable. as soon as you ban criticism of something, you remove that one thing that keeps it under control."
I think that's what Islamic radicals want. They want criticism against their crimes to be seen as a violation of human rights.
As well, I think it has something to do with the fact that most nations of the world (from Africa, Middle-East and possibly South America) are at a level of development where religion is still a very important aspect of life. That's my guess.
personally i believe religion should stfu already. the main problem with religion is the people in feeling the need to oush thier religion on others. if you want religion fine, then keep it to yourself and stop trying to foist your bullshit on people that don't want it. especially islam because islam is a plainly evil religion that should be banned in any civilised country. IMO
The most defamation of religious people is done by those people. You treat women like shit, that defames your religion. It points out, to the whole civilized world that you are savage barbarians. You launch rocket attacks on civilians because you think God has given you the rights to a piece of property in the desert, you demonstrate that your religious views are not worthy of any respect. Defamation rules ;)
there are Nine thousand Three Hundred and Eighty Seven American Soldiers who will not leave France. I figure they'll have to be reinforced sooner or later.
Pretty hard to silence a gun shot, Muzzies. Playing with fire! There are a lot of crazies (we like to call them "normal people") out there who don't like their freedom of speech being fucked with!
This is censorship...and it's bullshit. Unfortunately, if you're nice to crazy people, they'll walk all over you...so it's inevitable if we give crazy people equal rights.
