Umm, I don't think he did it correctly. Everyone I know that wears bowties generally have a better finished result and different method. His finished product looks a bit grotesque.

This method was the easiest to do out of all the ones I have tried. Pinching the two ends with your thumb and finger before feeding the other end through the loop was Key!

ah that took me the longest time to figure out! i wasnt even messing up the tricky part! i was folding the short end of the tie so that the loop was on the wrong side, and i always had two loops on one side and two flat ends on the other. Finally!!
