Jesus, Crispin is absolutely amazing. He is so completely in control of the interview, and David doesn't even know what is going on, and he has absolutely no interesting being a real person or talking to David normally or helping his career or anything. He's just like, you want me to be on your stupid show, watch this.

oh he took a piss in a bush he must be on something. really? cause the only way you'd know is if you've done them. stfu
@dedbusted Not really, I think Letterman just created a hostile environment. Look at Crispin Glover's 2003 interview with Conan... watch?v=qmR6F4g4Gok. Glover comes off as an intelligent gentleman. The deal is that Glover takes some time to say what he has to say, and he stutters a lot. Letterman just doesn't give him a chance. I lost a lot of respect for Letterman from watching the way he treats Crispin in all these interviews. Judgmental prick.
@HotBroodish Yeah it was, that why I liked watching it. I believe it debuted in 1982 when I was 16 and it wasn't boring and stuffy like I thought Carson was back then... letterman was kinda like saturday night live in a way.
Can he talk? i Hahahahahahahahehehehehehahahaahahahhahhehuahuahauahshau okay i uhh its i i i its uh i its a uh hahahahahehehehahahahheehahahhehahahehahehhahahah well well well well i i i i i its this this this kind of heahahahaha kind of like uh uh there there there it was hahehahahahahehahaeahah

This is so hilarious, I recognised him in Alice...I think Letterman was taken by surprise and didn;t know how to act so he left lol...but some hilarious stuff happening in this video, when they shouted "Nice shoes" the look on his face was so funny, I know he is well known but he should be right out there in orbit and be an absolute star...he is strong too and can even arm wrestle lol...just loved this video, I laughed so hard.

@hcvang I wish i could see someone like him, but I have little chance as I live in Scotland :), I am glad you had fun wathching him I am sure I would have had great fun too.
There's absolutely no need for David to be such a DICK to Crispin about this! Yes, he may be an eccentric person and the stress of TV interviews probably bring that nervous quality of his personality out even more. Bringing him on to television to publicly chastise, make fun of, interrogate, and humiliate him is just LOW and a disgusting thing for Letterman to do. As though he somehow has the right to treat this man as a child he can tower over. Asshole.
@pdchr He needs drugs... this type of wacko is why Thorazine was invented . Sadly, regardless of the facts behind his bizarre behavior, staged or not, he's out of his fucking mind.
@Scumbagization Seriously? Is that all an act? It seems to me it wouldn't "help" his career.... If he is going to act... why act like a threatening lunitic? Why not be funny? Or all "Charlie Sheen"?
Glover did his first appearance on Letterman in character as Rubin to promote the release of Rubin and Ed. In this interview and the one following it he uses delaying tactics to waste the interview time, to avoid explaining his behavior in the first interview -to keep it a mystery. He uses the uncomfortable awkwardness in this one, and in the following one launches into a long and unrelated story.
@emzilyyyyyy It was more than just promoting a movie. He's a mysterious guy, better that us little youtubers don't pretend to understand things we don't.
@emzilyyyyyy it reminds me of the Joaquin Phoenix interview, its sort of like polar opposite, though. Joaquin being so sedate and Crispin being super hyper and weird. poor Dave. Kaufman and Jerry Lawler, Crispin Glover, and Joaquin Phoenix, he's a good sport.
@emzilyyyyyy hee haw hee haw hee haw A B C D E F G, gummi bears are chasing me, one is red, one blue, the other one has got my shoe, now im running for my life, because the cute one has a knife. i am so much deliberate more on the tactics of usage for this type of crispin glover video. now i am understands if of, becuase before i's like whaaaa? and its now so much for true. thanks of this for me and whole time. world says yay
Why didn't I think of that excuse as a kid: "Look Mom, it's this kind of thing, you know. It's self-explanatory kind of, I mean uh, there it is." He's like Emo Philips without the punch-line.
If you look at the 1990 Letterman and his interview about it much later, as he says, 20 years later (all on YouTube), you can gather there's a doppelganger supposedly he arranged to fill in for him because of another show booking, it could be done given the extent of look alikes and impersonators, you know
I think it's genius how he plays carachters on the show. First he comes on playing this neurotic guy, then a couple weeks later he comes on as a regular happy-crazy guy and then 3 years later playing a "normal" guy, denying everything.
Glover isn't intentionally a dick, its just that he's doing the weirdness for himself, and Dave is merely along for the ride.... Wait.. okay yeah, that is kinda dick-ish, but damn was it funny.. =)
if this whole thing had happened on conan, it would have been the funniest thing ever. but this is just awkward, because letterman's a dick and not playing along.
@GustafGouda No, that's not the case. Letterman invented the anti-talk show. Whereas this crap would be edited out of talk shows before Letterman, he left that stuff in. He's also always enjoyed painful awkwardness.
y does everyone hate letterman,i think hes the best talkshow host he has the best bands play there.and look at him hes wearing addidas how cool is that lol
why do people believe he's a genius? haven't seen anything in his long and illustrious oeuvre that would be indicative of genius (possibly an idiot savant). he seems rather contrived and desperate to seem edgy. for a great fucked-up letterman interview check out letterman vs oliver reed.
Glover comes back in 1990 and plays a clip of his video Clowny, clown, clown. If watched in its entirety it is apparent that Letterman is the clown, and Crispin was presenting his Mr farr character in the first interview. Great to see Letterman 'clowning' Crispin in the interview, while truely being outwitted.
I love Crispin, and I'm sure he is a smart guy,but he sgould of laid off the drugs if he knew he was gonna be on T.V. Wasn't promoting him self too well
A battle of wits . . . . Crispin is so much smarter than David. Why does Crispin even need to explain anything? I guess most people are stupid or that is just what Letterman assumes. That's why Letterman needed him back on the show. And you know what they say about assuming. Yeah, or should I say, Crispin just made an a-- out of him. Again . . . .
It would be my biggest peasure to punch that piece of shit Letterman in his freaking face with cameras rolling and all the people watching as his rotten body hits the ground!
He was IN CHARACTER as Rubin from a movie which was unreleased at the time and nobody understood what he was doing. Then he was just messing with Letterman for his second interview and was avoiding to tell him what he was doing.
@Frankholmquist I know, but I mean now it's such a big deal. Just remember how much people were making fun of it and talking about it in the media, that's what happens when you do something unusual these days, but sure it could still happend ;-)
You're all crazy if you dont think Crispin Clover and Letterman are both in on this together. It's the same thing as Letterman and Andy Kaufman. The real dumby is YOU the audience.
What is wrong with this guy........

wow, glover looks like cloris leachman.
why do people believe he's a genius? haven't seen anything in his long and illustrious oeuvre that would be indicative of genius (possibly an idiot savant). he seems rather contrived and desperate to seem edgy. for a great fucked-up letterman interview check out letterman vs oliver reed.

I wonder if Crispin was on drugs.

Again . . . .

It would be my biggest peasure to punch that piece of shit Letterman in his freaking face with cameras rolling and all the people watching as his rotten body hits the ground!

if you want to punch that guy in the face, it's probably beacause he's a great actor

He was IN CHARACTER as Rubin from a movie which was unreleased at the time and nobody understood what he was doing. Then he was just messing with Letterman for his second interview and was avoiding to tell him what he was doing.
jdt917 1 year ago 18
@jdt917 Crispin hasn't confirmed that with anyone, and he said himself he'd rather leave what happened on these appearances a 'mystery.'

why do you never see this on tv these days? makes me depressed, wish I could have been around back then

@JadeBadClips
Too be honest, I think this kind of stuff still happens in theese days.
Take a look at joaquin phoenix on Letterman from last year (remember?)
Don't be depressed! :-)
Frankholmquist 1 year ago
@Frankholmquist I know, but I mean now it's such a big deal. Just remember how much people were making fun of it and talking about it in the media, that's what happens when you do something unusual these days, but sure it could still happend ;-)

You're all crazy if you dont think Crispin Clover and Letterman are both in on this together. It's the same thing as Letterman and Andy Kaufman. The real dumby is YOU the audience.
mws755 1 year ago 27
@mws755 Yeah, the earlier appearance was him in-character as Rubin, but Rubin and Ed wasn't released yet.
