this move is still good in pick up games (where drawing a "foul" is kind of lame...) if you are a good at the catch and shoot. once your defender gets used to you sinking a couple of shots straight off the catch, you can pump fake when hes coming at you and start your dribble to get past them. just make sure you get your dribble down quick, often people get a step down first and thats a travel.

I agree, some rules are so stringent that it completely takes away from referee's use of common sense.It is now part of the games tactics to intentionally get fouled. If you jumped into a football players leg after you fake him in football(soccer) the referee would penalize you....oh well at least they allow travels in NBA XD.

but like, if you pump fake once, defenders are now in your face and your have less room plus you lost your live dribble. for example, like @ 0:11, wade's shooting motion is a bit weird after a pump fake. idk if he practices that way, but i think the purpose of pump fake is get the defender to foul you on teh shot

@OooGodOfWarooO I played both soccer and basketball a lot. I must say dribbling, shooting, and all the fundamentals for soccer was harder for me to master. I became reasonably "good" at basketball much quicker than I did at soccer.

Both are very deep sports and require strategy and tactics.
