Hey yall folks, I'm deaf nigga, just gimme a holla if you wanna make new buddy. I'm ain't into too much dramas, its ok if its a little. I'm humble and cool. Later.
CODA & radio/ On long trips, I remember leaning over the front beach seat, between my two deaf parents, turning the dial because the station signal went out. I would be balancing and teetering, turning the dial slowly, while my parents conversed over my body. Trying to keep my balance whenever dad accelerated or braked (watch out for sharp turns!!) and of course the whole process repeated itself when that station went out and I had to find another one!!! yep, part of my CODA childhood, LOL!!!
I absolutely love your vlogs! They make me laugh so hard! This is my all time favorite blog though. It really opened my eyes to the difference in cultures. A back seat diver is required in a Deaf Car, however many find it annoying in a hearing car. Rolling up to church in a bumpin' car is awesome!!!! You should take your Vlog to the stage and tour?!? :) Your very funny!
hi just wonder about ur father... did he graduate from minnesota school for the deaf?? my Dad also graduated from there.. just curious if both of our dad know each other... pls respond... gonler93.. thanks
I am also a CODA... and this is just funny. My dad is completely deaf, and my mom is hard-of-hearing, but my dad will blast the radio then turn the car off. So when I get in the car with him, the blaring music catches me off guard and I jump and gets a laugh out of it. It's the best to be a CODA though.
Hahahahahaaa!! I'm a coda also, it's sooo true about the music being very loud! Lol my mom would sometimes drop off my friends or something and they would be so fascinated that I could just blast the radio lol!
Yes. Very much so. I commute with two hearing people and two deaf people. The person who drives is deaf and we constantly have to tell her to look out for something because she'll lip read the hearing kids in the mirror. But we have fun drives. Something new every day.
The counselor on a deaf community Deafornot dot c om said that "People who may be defined as clinically deaf (unable to hear spoken language) may or may not be members of the Deaf community."
Dear Coda Brothers, you both are so much fun to watch. Better than SNL! I was hoping to see you both imitate The Blues Brothers or Abbott and Costello. You are so creative and full of energy. Go for it! :)
To funny and all to familiar !! Both my parents are deaf and I too always controlled the radio!!! Now my children who adore thier grandparents love to ride with them cuz they too can control the radio.
To funny and all to familiar !! Both my parents are deaf and I too always controlled the radio!!! Now my children who adore thier grandparents love to ride with them cuz they too can control the radio.
This is probably the funniest, and most accurate thing I have ever seen about CODAs (with the church thing) and the deaf driver! My brother and I were laughing so hard!
ahh so true! i am a CODA, and i looove to control the radio when moms drivin. and everyone stares at us cuz our car is always pounding with the loud music!
Im 23 and would love to make a deaf friend to teach me ASL. I know my alphabet by heart and know over 200 words. But would love to learn more. Even if its Cam to Cam chat. If anyone deaf is willing to help and even make a new friends please write me a msg. Thanks :)
grining, I do the LIGHT, BLAST THE MUSIC& DANCE while me driving and yes yes, before use my SIDEKICK, not anymore...and Me DONT GIVE A RATS ASS, Who look at me funny.. Im enjoying myself.. nothing wrong wit that :-)
hahaha i am half deaf - but yes agree to the comment made earlier about signing to one self... my friends who arent asl fluent get at me all the time im just like what're you laughing at, and they'll be sitting there saying you're signing... then i get stuck trying not to tell them what ive been thinking hehe
The radio experience really brought me back. I remember rolling into church with the music blaring as well. It never ends though, just last week I was a passenger in my (deaf) mom's car and left the radio blasting out the rap music for old times sake, and I'm now 36!! Good times.
This is so true. I once had a 5 minute conversation with deaf people in another car in the lane next to me while we were driving down the highway. It would have continued but my exit came up.
wow. i was wondering that yesterday too!! seriously - what's it like when 2 deaf people are in the car and one's driving, but the 2 are having a conversation? Wow - gotta be unsafe. LMFAO
Here's my Question: do deaf people talk to themselves the way hearing people do? and i mean, full out signing -- but they're alone... so??
Just like how some people use their free hand to use the phone and text messaging.
So yes you can communciate with your free hand but normaly, if my car is going straight down the road, I use both hands... not gonna need to do a u turn anyways!
oh wow that is a really good question. i bet yeah. i am a hearing person learning sign and have found myself signing to the dog, and cat... and bugs, but so far the extent of my conversation with bugs has been "hey bug" cuz you know how bugs are, kinda quiet and nonresponsive. they keep to themselves mostly. ;)
LOL that'd be something i'd do too - sign to my pets LOL... i sign to people who don't even know sign lol....
but it was easy stuff - and one was ad libbed really LOL....
like "i'm going on break"... the 'break' sign was made up.
and i've said "i'm going on lunch" but that one was one sign off from being technically all correct... grammatically, i dunno, but i did the correct signs probably for SEE (exact english)
I'm hearing and taking ASL II, and that was very interesting to learn. I love watching these videos, you don't pick these things up in class too often. Thanks!
took my deaf friend home and YES, FIRST thing she did was turn on interior light! I didn't think anything of it then realized, without it how could we chat on way her house!!!
I never thought about the fact that you would get to control the radio! I'm a little jealous of that, haha! My parents always get the radio but they play the worst stuff they can find to torture us, I swear!
Actually I think D people are good drivers! More in touch with their peripherals.
my best friend drives with the steering wheel to his knee. It was hilirious. When all of us deaf when out ..hands would be flying all over the place. My mom..SHE won't let me drive when she is in the car because i sign to her ROFL and she is like..keep hands on the road ROFL haahahaha Oh gosh but it is true about deaf drivers...hysterical
I'm hearing with no deaf family but some deaf friends of family (my mom used to be interpreted and is now teacher of sign language) so the few times i road in a car with a deaf driver i was scared to death (probably just not used to it). funny thing, one time the deaf driver turned on the radio for my sister and i. we couldn't help but giggle even thou we where trying ti be polite. the driver asked us what was funny, the radio was set in between stations and all you could hear was static.
Totally true and its still happening today! One time, I had a hearing friend in my car with three other deaf friends, she was freaking out everytime when I was having chats with deaf friends while driving at same time. She kept telling me to keep eyes on the road but I told her that we already have 6 other eyes watching out for me. So, she didn't want to ride with me and the deaf group in it again. : (
U should listen to her at the first place. When u driving on road. You must watch the road, It important. No matter what, cause if cop see u like that u get pull over and get ticket.. So watch the road... Use your rear view mirror..
First... love you guys!!!!! Second... Deaf back seat driving scares me to death especially when i am shot gun (can ya tell I'm hearing) Third..... really love you guys!!!!
