@ishymuu The piece was originally a Catalan folk song that Miguel Llobet arranged. There are certain characteristics of Llobet's music that are evident in his arrangement, so his arrangement is considered an original composition in its own right. This is not so unusual; Bach didn't create the melodies for his chorales but they are still considered his compositions.
Sevovia is "hors catégorie". Nobody will ever come close to his playing in classical guitar; he belongs to the very rare artists who are "beyond" music.
well said...im now starting to see why he was said to be the best, and still is.....for that i had to dig deep into the music he played....and compare it with others playing
Looks like Segovia's Ramirez. I wonder though if that's some smashed-up flamenco guitars old Segovia has burning away in the fireplace there at the beginning ;)
Ha, ha, ha! Probably along with a Les Paul. Yes, you can tell it´s the Ramirez by the head. His Hauser, in my opinion, was a far better instrument, perhaps not as powerful, but sweet like milk and honey.
i think you can blame him. disliking an entire genre is as ignorant as disliking an entire race or gender (segovia was a huge sexist, incidentally). every genre has at least a few artists with something really great to offer.
"hereu" means "heir", but usually means the older son...and Riera is a surname..Before it was usually that the older son of a family was called for the other people "hereu"+ his surname
No, actually they are in the original arrangement by Miguel Llobet that Segovia re-arranged. (I know these arrangements well. I've played and recorded them.) Segovia played his own arrangement perfectly, but I prefer Llobet's.
Ok, I stand corrected. I didn't realize you were comparing a version with more notes to this one. I just got Llobet's version and will work on this. Thanks for clarifying that.
who wrote this piece?? Llobet??

Segovia disliked flamenco as well ..and you can't blame him.
But did Segovia had huge hands or what?

A master in his element. Played with sweetness and conviction, although missing the moving inner voices that I usually love to hear.
rguitphil 4 years ago
The inner voices were in your head, that's you missed them. ;-) Segovia played this perfectly.

I can respect that. Maybe Segovia just felt it sounded better with less musical lines. Sometimes with the guitar less notes is better.

i think here he is playing on the Ramirez guitar .i am not sure if that makes the difference vs the Hauser guitar.

Yes, this is a Ramirez. The crown on the headstock a dead giveaway.

That would depend on which of his sons you would have for a father. When the youngest was nine years old the older was sixty!

Aye Carumba! What a pimp.
cupidandpsycho06 5 years ago
To be more accurate, the youngest was 9 when the old man was 86!
rguitphil 4 years ago
I was referring to the older brother. I am not sure the exact age of the older son.
