JUST MISSED!!! "One Hell Of A Woman" just missed making the Billboard's Top 10 chart; it peaked at No. 11 but spent more than a half a year in the Top 100 {28 weeks to be exact}!!!
Mac I owe everything to you I wouldn't even write songs if it wasn't for you, You started it all for me. I tell everyone about you and how you were the inspiration for my songwriting. If there was anyone I would love to meet on this earth it would be you. I owe everything to you. I'm Brody McCain you started it all for me. Brody McCain.

I heard a rumor that Mac came out with this song after "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" and it pissed the women off, so he came out with this song, which I LOVE this song, one of my all time favorites, and by that time, the damage was done-women were done with him being their hearthrob, so that is why this song didn't do well in the box office. I bought it when it came out. I guess I was a handful of junior high aged girls who did, though.
@ProudKansan08 I think you should change that to "some women" because Mac stayed very popular on into the early 80s, doing TV shows and movies. This song made it to #11 on Billboard but "Don't Get Hooked.." went to #1 on 4 charts and #2 on another. You have to remember how the early 70s were about the word "hell." I remember having to sneak around to listen to "And When I Die" by Blood Sweat and Tears because of the lyrics "I swear there ain't no Heaven but I pray there ain't no hell."
Oh wow! I love Mac Davis and I loved this song. My Uncle had the Stop And Smell The Roses LP and I used to listen to it over and over again. Great Song, great singer / song-writer.
"One Hell Of A Woman" was played on an infrequent basis over the radio. This tune from 1974 had panache, spirit, oomph, and brilliance in describing a woman's determination in the real world to obtain success. A Brilliant 6!!
this reminds me of his role in North Dallas 40....full of post-Nixon irony and inflationary difficulty and permissiveness...aw man, I would have loved to be an adult in 1974.....I think the ladies of that era would have actually liked me....
Excellent tune. Funny how kperk014 described the song as "a little too soulful and edgy for Nashville during that time." 36 years later, judging by the so-called "country" music these days, Nashville is still avoiding music that's soulful and edgy.
Have not heard this one in YEARS! Loved it when it first came out. I think I was about 12 and had a strong liking for it then and still do. Brings back the great music memories when I was a youngster. :) Great voice. Where did this guy ever go? Great talent.
@LadyPegasus1963 Looks like I was right about one (tame instead of tan) and we were both wrong about the other. It's "wild" instead of wife or wise. Glad you listen though. Sometimes it's hard to figure out what they are saying.
Though he's from Lubbock, Tx and lives in LA, Mac Davis will be inducted into the Alabama Music Hall of Fame along with Mac McAnally on March 25th. Congrats to Mac and Mac!
Texas has put out some good singers.

With the dreamy guitar sound, does this sound like the twin of Linda Ronstadt's "You're no Good?" They seem so cut out of the same cloth...

Strange fact. 'One hell' was the #10 song for '74, even though, on the weekly chart, it never got higher than #11. Mac also hit #20 AC. God bless!

Wonder if Mac wisely quit smokin' since that cover shot was taken? Dedicated to a 'heck' of a woman at my workplace. Hit #11 in Billboard. God bless!
