Villager mine better but the two random houses near a tower that have the quarry and tree yard are resource gatherers. You buy workers for 1500 gold and they mine/chop trees each day. You can get about seven full stacks from a full resource bar I think. I used the wood gatherers and three miners underground to get tier 3 quickly. Hope this helps.

Sorry to have missed the livestream, but you should use the redpower mod to make a timer and a toggle switch so you can switch between your engines in intervals to keep them from exploding. If you do, all you have to worry about is keeping them fueled. Equivalent Exchange is useful for turning large quantities of junk (cobble) into things like diamond and glowstone.
